Network Marketing Success Knowledge Base
Have you ever experienced success or are successful with a network marketing/mlm company? Before you answer this question, answer it without talking about network marketing or the company or the features, benefits or mention your company...ONLY talk about how it's changed your personal life style, your personal growth, your family or debt problems etc. Talk about YOU. For those of you who experienced or had a hard time, with some probing, I can find out why that occured. Always and I mean always honor the relationship... therefore, ONLY SUCCESSFUL people answer the question.
MLM/Network Marketing? Does success come at the expense of others? To be successful in the industry of MLM/Networking you have to accept the fact that the design of the marketing plan is set up to attract the naive. Right or wrong? You are taught that less is more when spreading the word. To build business, do you have to accept that many fail by design? (Many independent stats show 97% or higher) Are the trainings set up to teach taking advantage of others? For example, not giving full information and targeting peoples needs for extra income. Many times MLM/Network Marketing creates new buying habits for the hope or chance of financial freedom yet less then 3% ever experience profit from participation.
MLM/Network Marketing? Quit or Fail? Which is it? Many independent studies show that 97% to 99% of participants in MLM/Network Marketing do not make a profit. Is it fair to say that the person is a quitter and they failed because of lack of participation? Is the structure set up for failure it self? Either way, is it fair to say that many of the 97%+ do give the marketing plan much effort (even spending many $$$ of their own money for promotion) and still fail to make a profit? We live in a world where we can create our own success. MLM/Network Marketing claims to offer a great opportunity for the average person to become successful. Why is it that 97% fail? Is it designed to attract quitters and failures?
I never read about Network Marketing in the Yahoo News? This is something people should know more about.? There are many people out there who are searching for a way out, or seaking help (financially). They usually shy away from Network Marketing, but if you read magazines like Forbes, Success, Home Business at Home, Empowering Women, and many more you will learn how this Industry is slowly making it's way in and that in the next 10 to 20 years this will be the way people do business it's a revolution and its the wave of the future.

How can I create leads in Network Marketing using the Internet? I'm only 19 years old, but I was recently introduced to the world of working at home, and network marketing. Since then, working in corporate America just seems like a joke. I really want my time spent in Network marketing to be a success. But I have no idea how to find leads, or close sales. I'd prefer to use the Internet rather than the traditional methods of calling friends and family, and even the 3--way calls. If anyone has personal experience that can help me, or even websites for training please let me know! -Thanks!!
Why is MLM/Network Marketing the business of choice for the 21st Century? For example, in the book, "The New Professionals" - The Rise of Network Marketing as the New Profession, See Amazon.com link here: http://www.amazon.com/New-Professionals-Network-Marketing-Profession/dp/0761519661 This book was written by a Harvard Economics Professor. Not an MLM distributor. Also, why does Robert Kyosaki, self made multi millionaire support MLM even though he is not involved with MLM? So, answer the question as to why there are professionals such as CEO's, surgeons, attorneys, CPA's etc... leaving their regular jobs because of the success with the MLM company they've achieved? My answer is time freedom. They didn't want to be owned by their job... what's your answer? Don't say that most people at the top make all the money and you have to get in at the beginning because my 12,000 dollars proves this to be a bunch of horse pucky. I deleted the first question because it was not asked the way it sounded... I meant why so many professionals who are already six figure earners would choose Network Marketing as their vehicle of choice? Also, I'd like to add that there is no infinite depth in pay to keep it going forever... so, it's not a scheme. There is a cap on the depth in pay. Just no cap on how many income centers you can choose to open and grow.

Network Marketing/MLM! What do you think? A pack of lies? Found some fantastic answers about MLM on this sight...just joined by the way. I have been in MLM for 5 years but would love some answers. Despite the success I have had I'm beginning to think it might be a time for the whole industry to change. After 5 years in I have recently come across some info that sugests I may have been lied to...quite a lot actually. I'm a big boy and can handle that but it appears I may have been duplicating(Good MLM word) those lies to a lot of other people...not good. Anyone care to share the lies they may have been told.
Why Are People So Negative Toward Network Marketing Companies? Do you think it is because they simply don't understand the concept, or because a lot of people misrepresent their company's plan as a way to get alot of easy money quick. Once they can't achieve large success in a short time they become negative toward the marketing plan as oppossed to taking a real look at themselves and their individual efforts in relation tom realistic goals and achievments. I just wondered what most think, because I think the concept is great, it just seems like most become disillusioned and negative. For someone to be something other than ordinary ( or average), they must do that which IS NOT ordinary or average.

Anyone heard of Success University? My old man has always had an insatiable appetite for network marketing, sadly he always lose money in the process. The buzz word these days is success university, which sounds more like a pyramid scheme to me. I have begun avoiding responding to his telephone calls beacuse I do not share the excitement. Anyone with any idea what Success University is?
What kinds of opportunities do you see in Herbalife? Health? Wealth? Success? Define success? Relatively speaking, what makes a great, not just a good Herbalife Distributor? Have you focussed on success being just money? Just product results? Spare cash? Steady income? Or consistency? What drives you? What is your reason for being? Do you share similar body shape to all your friends? Did they condemn you, persecute you for network marketing? Did you know Herbalife has listed its shares on the NYSE about 3 years ago from US$14 list price to last time I checked US$41/share, and generally viewed as under valued? Are you aware larger numbers of businesses now use direct marketing? That Herbalife has a team, LA Galaxy, a soccer team where David Beckham is their star recruit? Posh's other half? Spice Gals? The Herbalife International corporation has just had 38 consecutive quarters of growth. In March 2007 we recorded $1Billion in sales for the quarter. Herbalife is on target to do $5Billion in sales for 2008. This unprecedented growth? Wow.
MLM recruiting... How to have great success? I am new to network marketing, aka MLM... what is the best way to recruit both people I know and people I do not know? and what is a good industry to get involved with? I joined and health and wellness company.

A sales career from home cold calling, do they really exist ? I have asked this question before, and ended up with network marketing answers. I want to work from home, selling products, one would sell in a real sales environment, or phone room. Does anyone know of anything out there. I am not looking for a guaruntee salary. What I need is a viable proven potential to make six figures. Meaning, other people have had great success in selling the product from home/ phone.
Promotion, Marketing & Socializing is a big part of a musicians success but what about fans with no internet? Hello, I would like to make a brief introduction about myself. I am the lead singer/vocalist in a rock/pop band, The Embezzles, (name have been changed quite a few times within the past few months)and we’re very similar to Paramore and Linkin Park. We’re sort of a big deal in East Texas with an increasing fan base which continues to grow expendably great but we have a big problem communicating and contacting fans. We’ve tried everything from Post Office boxes, Private Mailboxes and social networking sties. Unfortunately, the Postal Services are on shaky ground. Postal Services have rules and regulations to combat mail fraud and other crimes committed using postal and private mailboxes which sounds convincing but the postal services are on the wrong side here. Rather than protecting privacy they are seeking to invade it and rather than allowing some consumer choice they are looking to stifle what little competition exists. Unfortunately, scam artists also utilize the convenience of private mailboxes to hide illegal activities, such as credit card fraud, identity theft and schemes to swindle the elderly. In other words or simple terms, P.O. boxes and Private Mailboxes are growing concerns of the postal services used in order to single out P.O. boxes and PMB(private mailboxes) who have personal accounts instead of business accounts. We would like to have an address rather than using one of our own physical home address because you guys are aware of fans(groupies) can be a bit psychotic at times when bands are in the limelight destined for stardom. Instead of selling merchandise, passing out flyers, etc. from our tour van/hotel (lol) J, we decided that we want to be able to reach fans outside of our 100 mile radius giving fans the opportunity to write personal letters to one our band members, pics or whatever the fans want to give their favorite band (The Embezzles ) <<<<<promotion tactic>>>>>,in order to converse on numerous occasions, but we do not want to give the government or postal office or any carrier service speculations or any misleading ideas that we are subjecting to a scheme to earn money or somehow get personal information from individuals. All we want is to build a connection with our fans in order to solidify our relationships to remind them of upcoming tour dates, nearby performances, or any updates we might have in order to refresh the memories of our fans. We were recommended on some international mail forwarding service sites but getting an international P.O. or Private box seems a little suspect, wouldn’t you agree? Although they offer great services they only require your personal information….sometimes to much information. I have scavenged many postal services sites and some websites seem a bit puzzling. Even though they have U.S. Postal Forms and identification requirements they false advertise and some sites even have numerous complaints from previous customers. If I were to come across one of these misleading websites how would I be able to recognize a true and faithful postal or forwarding service from any other website posing as a legit mail forwarding service? Are there any services that allows you to apply online if so this would be my first option to cut out the hassle and run around the postal services have been giving us. Thanks for your all your time and help.

Network marketers, what are the best social networks to network and recruit? I'm a seasoned network marketer and have had some very good success with the traditional way of building a buisness but I have recently got 2 new teams started in her states through facebook. I am really seeing the power of online networking. All I want to know is what other "social network" sites are good for marketing, networking and recruiting? I heard "Corkin" was good? (not sure if I spelled that correct) but I want advise from network marketers. p.s. if you are a "Social media expert" dont bother selling me anything since I am not doing that either and if your an "anti mlm failure" Don't bother writting negative coments on here. thanks everyone!
Best customers for a small time marketing firm? So I'm in the process of starting a business in Fort Collins, Colorado (small college town for those not familiar) that sells marketing services to small businesses at affordable rates; things like flyering, social networking, website creation, promotions, etc. I've had decent success in my town (colo. Springs), but moving up there, I have no clients, no word of mouth, etc. What kind of businesses should I target to have local reference ROI's that'll impress and grow more business?
What is the secret business success acheived by WHITEPEOPLE? 1. fill out college application with extra-curricular activities even if you did not join 2. once in college, join a all white fraternity. you will make good contacts with other members, as their parents may hold great jobs, which means it is your way into the profession because of nepostism. also, most fraternities have old exams, which you can use to render studying not necessary to get great grades. This way you can have more time to party and have orgies. 3. since whitie can not study or compete withacademically with Asians, whitie should make as many friends and go to parties to network and work on popularity. Many jobs look at popularity more than academic achievement, so work on that (popularity). Jobs that look at popularity more than academic achievement includes Business Management, Accounting, Marketing, Advertising, Sales. Stay away from jobs that require academic achievement like science, medical and healthcare, computer techonology, biology. They are Asian dominated!
Starting a Social Network website..A growing market? Or a monopoly? 18 year old kid here, and I am looking to delve into the world of social networks and whatnot..I know that many people are entering this market with the success of facebook, twitter, myspace, and soon google plus, and I know that not everyone will make it big like Mark Zuckerburg (or the other multi-million net worth creators).. I, myself, am wondering what it would take to start up a social network website. I mean, not what the costs of running a site like facebook is right now (probably millions of dollars), but, at the time of the startup of facebook, what did it take for Mark Zuckerburg to launch that website (how many hours would I spend coding, how much money would I spend, etc, etc).. Is it a growing market, or is it a difficult market to enter into and make money because everyone prefers facebook/twitter (and will not likely waste their time signing up for another social network website).. I am just wondering, because right now I am thinking becoming an entrepreneur one day, and creating such a website is just one idea on my list. So again, how much time, effort and money would I spend into making the aformentioned website? And what type of programming language would I have to learn (and what are the other steps of creating such a site)? Thanks.
mlmers and network marketers do think calling leads is out dated? I hear from some trainers that say calling leads is best way to build your business others say its its outdated and there are more effective ways to market. what do you think . If you are successful how do you promote your business. . I believe that success is based on how well you present your product or service and market it not on the product or service itself and also if the person you are promoting to can see an effective way to market and present what you have to offer.
Why Is It So Difficult For Most People To Make Money In MLM Or Network Marketing? 95-97% of people fail to make any sort of income yet alone sustainable income that they can live off of. They may have a few commissions here and there, but it’s few and far between and not even enough to pay for a pizza at the end of the month in most cases. In spite of the fact that these people break their asses, going above and beyond everything they’ve been told to do. They invest in training, advertising, lead programs and other products that have supposedly been designed to help them succeed. Over time their viewpoint goes from assuming success as an optimist to assuming failure as a pessimist. Being as how they’ve tried so many different things and invested so much time and effort only to end up not getting a return on that investment. Their goal is to make money and they end up losing more than they are making especially if they aren’t making anything. These people often become angry, bitter and resentful toward humanity in general for not enabling them to succeed and enjoy the good life they were promised they were going to be living when they got into the industry. They start to think friends, family members, neighbors, associates, community leaders etc are conspiring against them so that they don’t succeed and receive a “reality check” thus abandoning this “non sense” of pursuing financial independence and go back to “working a real job.” but for many of these aspiring network marketers that isn’t an option as “real jobs” are in short supply these days it’s more of a privilege to have a job in this economy than a given right like it used to be. Failure simply isn’t an option but for so many becomes a painful reality.
For personal development an insight and exposure to Direct marketing is necessary - Right or wrong ? Direct marketing companies ( like A V O N , Amway , Quest.net , HLN network ) provide invaluable training and allow their sellers room to correct themselves in attaining and bettering their softskills ! They of course are income-oriented ! But it is altogether another platform which concerns our own-personal-selves which we only would know ! The question is about changing the pattern of attitudes of a Person ! Whether success in direct marketing will better a person and cause his Personal development in various angles (including earningwise etc.,)

Marketing Advice Needed? I own a small child-centered business in PA. We have been open a little over a month and have had quite a bit of success with our marketing, but we are still lacking the amount of traffic I would expect. Thus far we have been featured on every local network's evening news, done radio commercials, created accounts on Twitter and Facebook, posted on Craigslist several times, distributed print materials to community bulletin boards and pediatrician's offices, published online articles, posted on blogs, created a website, offered giveaways, and created business partnerships throughout the community. Next month we will be featured in a local coupon magazine. Our business website is http://tinytoestoys.com. If anyone has some solid advice for getting more traffic through the doors it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Multi Level Marketing? Recently a friend of mind had asked me to join a Multi Level Marketing business(www.dchl.org) under him. His point is t's still very new in circulation and its very easy to get people to join under me. I know the strategy of a MLM business and how does it work but my question is wheteher it is trustable? What is the success rate of MLM business or the people who joined them? If its so easy to make money then why don't everybody join it? When does it ends (everything that begins have an ending).? If I've reached certain level which promises a huge amount of payment every month through the network, will it be forever? Please help me...
Anyone know of any legitimate work from home opportunities? I am looking for a LEGITIMATE work from home employment opportunity, one that does NOT require an investment of any kind, does NOT involve selling, marketing, envelope stuffing, survey taking or creating an internet business or any other business. Real jobs for real pay with real company benefits working from home. I have a complete office with separate fax number, copy machine and 3 computers, all networked together and connected to the internet. My wife is severely disabled and needs 24/7 in home care, she suffers from Secondarily Generalized, Left-Temporal, Epileptic Seizure Disorder, and she has anywhere from 3 – 6 seizures a day. After a seizure she needs someone she recognizes to be with her or else she doesn’t respond very well, she has had 6 inter-cranial brain surgeries in 7 years trying to correct the problem, with no success. This is why working form home is so important, it would allow me to make needed income and care for her at the same time. Does anyone know a good internet link that would list positions such as what I’ve described above? Or know of any companies that hire individuals to work from home? I have well over 10 years of office, management and IT support experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Home-Based Business? I am working on starting a home-based business in the network marketing genre. I am really excited about it, but was wondering if anyone else out there is successful in the same line of work??? I would love to hear about your success.
$50,000 Reward For Correct Answer.? Can anyone can suggest a way for a lazy man with no cash and poor credit to become a millionaire? Here are the rules: 1: The prize money can only be rewarded AFTER I make a million dollars. 2: Answers of "win the lottery" or "inheritance" or any other solution that requires chance DO NOT COUNT. 3: Must be a solution that can produce significant results in a month and complete success in a year. 4: NO MLMs OR ANY TYPE OF NETWORK MARKETING! I hate selling things. 5: Solutions that require the least amount of work on my part will be considered for best answer. 6: Don't forget that I'm lazy, have poor credit, and little money when you consider your answer. 7: Answers from self righteous dicks are not wanted. So save your energy to complain to someone who gives a rat's ass. 8: Hope you have better luck finding an answer than I did. Good luck!
Hi...I need help in language...just read the following, correct any errors possible and give an edited version When a person starts his or her network marketing organization, he or she is an independent entrepreneur. When building the business, Neways provides their products, sales tools, warehousing and shipping services, and other business necessities. He or she is not a representative or salesperson employed by Neways but is an independent business owner who purchases items from Neways as needed to conduct the business. Often, distributors in local areas share the costs of holding business meetings and carrying out other initiatives. Neways provides him or her with tools and support, to build his or her business fast and large. Training will be provided to easily duplicate to achieve success in his or her own business. In turn, he or she can help others duplicate this same training and business model in their own businesses.
I need some motivation, please help!!!? Alright, I came home from college my junior year. Haven't been back to school in a couple years, worked a couple jobs. Okay. Well, now I am looking for a new job. It is hard. I am so discouraged when it comes to being a success, but I believe I am capable of having so much in life. I feel very lazy since I haven't been working, and I don't have the motivation I did when I was in college. I need to work to have money for college, you know? So, I could go back soon, but not to the school I want. Anyways, I feel like I just want things handed to me. I don't feel like going out to look for a job, it's cold outside- but I learned to adapt. I just want to sit down and relax. lol But I want money too. I'm sick of these online scams. I even talked to people who did network marketing but I dint even have enough money for that. You have to have money to start a real business, Like a good amount. If I had that, I would of used it for other things... I need some encoragement, or some wisdom. Something to make me feel better. I'll even take a light hearted joke about my situation. I'm just feeling you know...:( I want some much out of life, you know?
I am a new online baby boutique owner, I need advice on how to promote my business on a small budget!? I am looking for advice on how to market/advertise my online baby boutique with a very small advertising budget. I signed on with Network Solutions, and they have reworked my site to be more easily recognized by the search engines. I have also signed up for their keywords campaign. But at $700.00 a month, I don't think that is the best choice for me. I am at a loss with trying to figure it out on my own. My budget is very small. I am looking for ways to promote my boutique and bring in shoppers. I am so busy with all of the other facets of the business, that I don't have tons of time to devote to researching different ways of advertising. What are the best ways to get my boutique noticed and shopped? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I am very dedicated to the success of my boutique! Thank you!
do you agree? Marketing Success will require building relationship with others company departments, suppliers, marketing intermediaries, consumer competitors and various publics which combine to make up the company's value delivery networks ?
marketing, advertising a new business? Hi all and thank you for looking at my question. I have opened a computer repair and support company in Miami 6 months a go, most of my clients are word of mouth, which is good and I am happy with that as it means we are doing a good job, and the majority of clients are happy with our services. We would also like to advertise and get fresh new clients to extend our networking, unfortunately we do not really have a buget for advertising, or heavy expensive advertising, we have tried : 1. fax advertising 2. free directories 3. google 4. newsletters 5. flyers with all of this, we have not yet breaked the ice, nothing has really really changed in the volume of interest. I was wondering if anyone had a really good success with some sort of advertising? Radio? telemarketing? anything that can be useful please share. Thanks www.miamipcservices.com
What would gaming be like today? Nintendo's Family Computer (Famicom for short) hit Japan in 1983, and despite some early hardware quality issues, became an instant hit. It brought near-arcade quality gaming into the home, and actually cost less than the Japanese version of the Atari 2600. After such success in its home country, Nintendo began to cast its eye abroad, imagining the potential profits that could be reaped in the West. It didn't, however, feel confident in its ability to distribute and market its products to foreigners, and so began looking for a partner to handle the Famicom's worldwide distribution. Atari, meanwhile, was still the biggest name in Western video games, but was hemorrhaging cash at a tremendous rate. In an effort to keep the company afloat, Atari Chairman, Ray Kassar, scoured the world for potential business opportunities. The result of one such effort was the licensing of Nintendo's Donkey Kong for the Atari home computers. Remembering this transaction and impressed by Atari's global marketing network, Nintendo President, Hiroshi Yamauchi, decided that Atari would be a suitable choice for handling the worldwide distribution of Nintendo products outside of Japan. Even in this alternate universe Super Pitfall would have probably still sucked. Meetings were arranged, with Nintendo's two top executives first visiting Atari's Sunnyvale headquarters. After answering a litany of questions from Atari executives and lawyers, the Nintendo duo headed back to Seattle. Shortly thereafter, a group from Atari visited Nintendo's headquarters in Kyoto, where they got their first look at the Famicom in action. Things went very well, and after much back-and-forth, a tentative agreement was reached. It was decided to sign the contracts one month later, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago. A funny (or horrifying, depending on whom you ask) thing happened at CES. Coleco was showing off its new (and ill-fated) ADAM computer system, and had decided to use Donkey Kong as the demo game. While Coleco did own the home console rights to Donkey Kong, it was Atari that had earlier secured the computer rights. Once Atari's Ray Kassar caught wind of what was at the Coleco booth, he accused Nintendo of cheating and double-dealing behind Atari's back. Utterly furious, he threatened to cancel the Famicom deal and sue Nintendo out of existence. Nintendo did its best to rectify the situation, and was aghast when Kassar was ousted from Atari a month later. The contracts were still unsigned, and with Kassar seemed to go all hope of getting the Famicom marketed in the West. Atari's corporate implosion accelerated, and soon it wasn't able to afford the Nintendo deal anyway. Eventually, though, Nintendo decided to market the Famicom in America by itself, through its youthful American branch. The Nintendo Entertainment System finally debuted in 1985, and the rest, as they say, is history. History that doesn't include Atari.

Weren't these business losses created by an inventory that greatly exceeded demand ? combined with the anticipated release of a advanced product from a different manufacturer? The prevalent mindset was to create more and unload them on the market to maintain profit margins, but the advertising for the advanced product release further dampened any opportunities for that success. The competition wiped you out before they ever hit the floor with a product. This goes back to issues of espionage, as the amount of information that is sold, greatly supersedes any potential rate of production or sales. Previously, when this has happened in history it usually result is a big war. Why war? because during the course of big wars, there develops an underlying movement for reconstruction. What I really appreciate about current leadership in the world is that there are so many of these world leaders that oppose that paradigm. But back to your problem for a moment...You can't bailout a sinking ship by putting more people and cargo on board. There is actually a lot more to this but I'd like to talk to people in private without this "one world" and "new world order" lurking about because that is the crux of the problem. I'll try to write more later...I hope the US auto industry is reading this and by the way I am happy to hear that your union is being more conciliatory and you really must abstain from extending credit/discounts/perks through a "friends and family" type network to all these bozos that took your initial good concept of providing for your employees, and bled you into unconsciousness with it. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081204/ap_on_go_co/congress_autos How much can all these auto execs and union officials contribute to this $34B to keep you in business, how many incentives can employees forego to keep jobs and how stringent are you going to be about extending credit to unqualified individuals and groups(for groups still must have stringent criterion for individual applicant approvals) Finally, who the hell has been minding this concession stand?
Which secret technique websites use to get famous? Why are facebook and myspace the biggest social networking sites there are when there are so many other ones that are even better but nobody has ever heard of them? Why was the million dollar homepage such a success? How did the guy get attention? I'm sure that the most successful sites didn't put all their marketing energy on search engine optimization! That's just something fairly successful sites do! Come on guys, answer this one for moi.

What is the lesson of this story? David Pradarelli Assalam-aleikum wa rahmatullah! I came to Islam pretty much on my own. I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but I always had a deep fascination with the spiritualities of other cultures. My Journey started when I desired to have a relationship with my creator. I wanted to find my spirituality, and not the one I was born with. I spent some time in the Catholic religious order known as the Franciscans. I had many friends and I enjoyed prayer times, but it just seemed to relaxed in its faith, and there was, in my opinion, too much arrogance and hypocrisy. When I had returned back from the order into secular living again, I once again was searching for my way to reach God (Allah). One night I was watching the news on television, and of course they were continuing their one-sided half-truth reports on Muslims (always in a negative light instead of balancing it by showing the positive side as well) with images of violence and terrorism. I decided long ago that the news media has no morals whatsoever and will trash anyone for that "juicy story", and I pretty much refused to believe anything they said. I decided to research Islam for myself and draw my own conclusions. What I found paled all the negative images that the satanic media spewed forth. I found a religion deep in love and spiritual truth, and constant God-mindfullness. What may be fanatacism to one person may be devotion to another. I picked up a small paperback Qur'an and began devouring everything I could. It opened my eyes to the wonder and mercy of ALLAH, and I found the fascination growing every day...it was all I could think about. No other religion including Catholicism impacted me in such a powerful way...I actually found myself in God-awareness 24 hours a day 7 days a week...each time I went to my five daily prayers, I went with anticipation...finally! What I have been searching for all of my life. I finally got enough courage to go to a mosque and profess the Shahadah before my Muslm brothers and sisters. I now am a practicing Muslim and I thank ALLAH for leading me to this place: Ashhahdu anna la ilaha ilallah wa Muhammadur rasul ALLAH! This means: "I believe in the oneness and totalness of ALLAH and that Muhammad(peace and blessings be upon him)is the chosen prophet of ALLAH." I now also accept Jesus as no longer equal with ALLAH, but sent as Muhammad was sent ...to bring all of mankind to submission to the will of ALLAH! May all of mankind find the light and truth of ALLAH. Ibrahim Karlsson I was born in an ordinary , non-religious Swedish home, but with a very loving relationship to each other. I had lived my life 25 years without really thinking about the existence of God or anything spiritual what-so-ever; I was the role model of the materialistic man. Or was I? I recall a short story I wrote in 7th grade, something about my future life, where I portray myself as a successful games programmer (I hadn't yet even touched a computer) and living with a Muslim wife!! OK, at that time Muslim to me meant dressing in long clothes and wearing a scarf, but I have no idea where those thoughts came from. Later, in high school, I remember spending much time in the school-library (being a bookworm) and at one time I picked up a translated Qur'an and read some passages from it. I don't remember exactly what I read, but I do remember finding that what it said made sense and was logical to me. Still, I was not at all religious, I couldn't fit God in my universe, and I had no need of any god. I mean, we have Newton to explain how the universe works, right? Time passed, I graduated and started working. Earned some money and moved to my own apartment, and found a wonderful tool in the PC. I became a passionate amateur photographer, and enrolled in activities around that. At one time I was documenting a marketplace, taking snapshots from a distance with my telelens when an angry looking immigrant came over and explained that he would make sure I wasn't going to take any more pictures of his mum and sisters. Strange people those Muslims... More things related to Islam happened that I can't explain why I did what I did. I can't recall the reason I called the "Islamic information organisation" in Sweden, ordering a subscription to their newsletter, buying Yosuf Ali's Qur'an and a very good book on Islam called Islam - our faith. I just did! I read almost all of the Qur'an, and found it to be both beautiful and logical, but still, God had no place in my heart. One year later, whilst out on a patch of land called "pretty island" (it really is) taking autumn-color pictures, I was overwhelmed by a fantastic feeling. I felt as if I were a tiny piece of something greater, a tooth on a gear in God's great gearbox called the universe. It was wonderful! I had never ever felt like this before, totally relaxed, yet bursting with energy, and above all, total awareness of god wherever I turned my eyes. I don't know how long I stayed in this ecstatic state, but eventually it ended and I drove home, seemingly unaffected, but what I had experienced left uneraseable marks in my mind. At this time Microsoft brought Windows-95 to the market with the biggest marketing blitz known to the computer industry. Part of the package was the on-line service The Microsoft Network. And keen to know what is was I got myself an account on the MSN. I soon found that the Islam BBS were the most interesting part of the MSN, and that's where I found Shahida. Shahida is a American woman, who like me has converted to Islam. Our chemistry worked right away, and she became the best pen-friend I have ever had. Our e-mail correspondence will go down in history: the fact that my mailbox grew to something like 3 megabytes over the first 6 months tells its own tale. She and I discussed a lot about Islam and faith in god in general, and what she wrote made sense to me. Shahida had an angels patience with my slow thinking and my silly questions, but she never gave up the hope in me. Just listen to your heart and you'll find the truth she said. And I found the truth in myself sooner than I'd expected. On the way home from work, in the bus with most of the people around me asleep, and myself adoring the sunset, painting the beautifully dispersed clouds with pink and orange colours, all the parts came together, how God can rule our life, yet we're not robots. How I could depend on physics and chemistry and still believe and see Gods work. It was wonderful, a few minutes of total understanding and peace. I so long for a moment like this to happen again! And it did, one morning I woke up, clear as a bell, and the first thought that ran through my brain was how grateful to God I were that he made me wake up to another day full of opportunities. It was so natural, like I had been doing every day of my life! After these experiences I couldn't no longer deny God's existence. But after 25 years of denying God it was no easy task to admit his existence and accept faith. But good things kept happening to me, I spent some time in the US, and at this time I started praying, testing and feeling, learning to focus on God and to listen to what my heart said. It all ended in a nice weekend in New York, of which I had worried a lot, but it turned out to be a success, most of all, I finally got to meet Shahida! At this point there was no return, I just didn't know it yet. But God kept leading me, I read some more, and finally got the courage to call the nearest Mosque and ask for a meeting with some Muslims. With trembling legs I drove to the mosque, which I had passed many times before, but never dared to stop and visit. I met the nicest people there, and I was given some more reading material, and made plans to come and visit the brothers in their home. What they said, and the answers they gave all made sense. Islam became a major part of my life, I started praying regularly, and I went to my first Jumma prayer. It was wonderful, I sneaked in, and sat in the back, not understanding a word the imam was saying, but still enjoying the service. After the khutba we all came together forming lines, and made the two 'rakaas'. It was yet one of the wonderful experiences I have had on my journey to Islam. The sincerity of 200 men fully devoted to just one thing, to praise God, felt great! Slowly my mind started to agree with my heart, I started to picture myself as a Muslim, but could I really convert to Islam? I had left the Swedish state-church earlier, just in case, but to pray 5 times a day? to stop eating pork? Could I really do that? And what about my family and friends? I recalled what Br. Omar told me, how his family tried to get him admitted to an asylum when he converted. Could I really do this? By this time the Internet wave had swept my country, and I too had hooked up with the infobahn. And "out there" were tons of information about Islam. I think I collected just about every web page with the word Islam anywhere in the text, and learned a lot. But what really made a change was a text I found in Great Britain, a story of a newly converted woman with feelings exactly like mine. 12 hours is the name of the text. When I had read that story, and wept the tears out of my eyes I realized that there were no turning back anymore, I couldn't resist Islam any longer. Summer vacation started, and I had made my mind up. I had to become a Muslim! But after all, the start of the summer had been very cold, and if my first week without work was different, I wouldn't lose a day of sunshine by not being on the beach. On the TV the weatherman painted a big sun right on top of my part of the country. OK then, some other day... The next morning; a steel grey sky, with ice-cold gusts of wind outside my bedroom window. It was like God had decided my time was up, I could wait no longer. I had the required bath, and dressed in clean clothes, jumped in my car and drove the 1 hour drive to the mosque. In the Mosque I approached the brothers with my wish, and after dhuhr prayer the Imam and some brothers witnessed me say the Shahada. Alhamdulillah! And to my great relief all my family and friends have taken my conversion very well, they have all accepted it, I won't say they were thrilled, but absolutely no hard feelings. They can't understand all the things I do. Like praying 5 times a day on specific times, or not eating pork meat. They think this is strange foreign customs that will die out with time, but I'll prove them wrong. InshaAllah! Abd al-Hayy Moore I became a Muslim when it seemed I had already accepted Islam in my bones, as if beyond choice, and I only had to make a leap to embrace it formally. Outwardly I was content; inwardly I was coasting. My three-year-old theatre company was disbanded after a hilariously chaotic production for a Tim Leary Benefit at the Family Dog in San Francisco, circa '68 -- naturally the orange juice everyone had passed around was spiked, so that chorus members were doing the final scene in the first ten minutes -- and for six months I had been methodically typing out poetry manuscripts in my attic in Berkeley preparatory to a big publishing peak. I considered myself a Zen Buddhist. But I was other things as well. My normal routine was to get up, sit zazen, smoke a joint, do half an hour of yoga, then read the "Mathnawi" of Rumi, the long mystical poem of that great Persian Sufi of the thirteenth century. Then I met the man who was to be my guide to our teacher in Morocco, Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib, may Allah be pleased with him. At first the meeting was simply remarkable, and my guide simply a remarkable man. But soon our encounter was to become extraordinary, leading to a revolution in my life from which I have never recovered and never hope to. The man looked like an eccentric Englishman. He too had only recently come out of the English version of the Hippie Wave. He was older, refined in his manners, spectacularly witty and intellectual, but of that kind prevalent then who had hobnobbed with the Beatles and knew the Tantric Art collection of Brian Jones firsthand. He had been on all the classic drug quests -- peyote in the Yucatan, mescaline with Laura Huxley -- but with the kif quest in Morocco he had stumbled on Islam and then the Sufis, and the game was up. A profound change had taken place in his life that went far beyond the psychedelic experience. For the three days following our meeting, two other Americans and I listened in awe as this magnificent storyteller unfolded the picture of Islam, of the perfection of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, of the Sufis of Morocco, and of the 100-year-old plus Shaykh, sitting under a great fig tree in a garden with his disciples singing praises of Allah. It was everything I'd always dreamed of. It was poetry come alive. It was the visionary experience made part of daily life, with the Prophet a perfectly balanced master of wisdom and simplicity, an historically accessible Buddha, with a mixture of the earthiness of Moses, the otherworldliness of Jesus, and a light all his own. The prophetic knowledge our guide talked about was a kind of spiritual existentialism. It was a matter of how you enter a room, which foot you entered with, that you sipped water but gulped milk, that you said, "Bismillah" (In the Name of Allah) before eating or drinking, and "Al-hamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) afterwards, and so on. But rather than seeing this as a burden of hundreds of "how-to's," it was more like what the LSD experience taught us, that there is a "right" way to do things that has, if you will, a cosmic resonance. It is a constant awareness of courtesy to the Creator and His creation that itself ensures and almost visionary intensity. It is hard to put forward any kind of explanation of Islam, to try to suggest the beauty of its totality, through the medium of words. The light of Islam, since it is transformational and alchemical in nature, almost always comes via a human messenger who is a transmitter of the picture by his very being. Face to face with our guide, what struck us most was his impeccable, noble behavior. He seemed to be living what he was saying. Finally the moment came, as a surprise, when he confronted me with my life. "Well," he said one morning after three full days of rapturous agreement that what he was bringing to us was the best thing we'd ever heard, "What do you think? Do you want to become a Muslim?" I hedged. "It's the most beautiful thing I've heard about so far. After all my Zen Buddhism, all my yoga, Tibetan Buddhism and Hindu gurus, this is certainly it! But I think I would like to travel a little, see the world, go to Afghanistan (then unoccupied), maybe meet my Shaykh in a mountain village far off somewhere." "That's not good enough. You have to decide now. Yes or no. If it's yes, then we start on a great adventure. If it's no, then no blame, I've done my duty. I'll just say goodbye and go on my way. But you have to decide now. I'll go downstairs and read a magazine and wait. Take your time." When he had left th
If libs had something interesting to talk about they would be able to compete on radio? Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk-radio pioneer, has been called many nasty things before, but never a “structural imbalance.” That’s the fancy term a liberal think tank uses to characterize his success — and to dress up its proposal for counteracting that success through new government regulation. The report of the Center for American Progress on “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” marks the latest phase in liberaldom’s grappling with conservative talk radio. First came the attempts to create a liberal Limbaugh — Mario Cuomo, Jim Hightower, et al. — that fell flat. Then an entire left-wing network, Air America, was founded, and foundered. So there’s only one option left — if you can’t beat them, and you won’t join them, you can agitate for government to regulate them. The report looks at a slice of 257 talk stations and concludes that more than 90 percent of total weekday talk programming is conservative. The supposed reason for this is, essentially, that media companies are conspiring to shove conservative radio down the throats of listeners in a way they couldn’t if, among other things, government required broadcasters “to regularly show that they are operating on behalf of the public interest.” This is a pinched view of radio. There are upwards of 2,000 talk stations in the country that deal with news and issues, according to Michael Harrison of Talkers magazine, and they encompass all sorts of formats from National Public Radio to urban radio to shock jocks, none of which are dominated by right wingers. Conservative talk radio is a vibrant niche within that market, but there are many other places to go for news and opinion. What is hard to find are liberal replicas of Rush Limbaugh, and that is due to the deepest structural imbalance of all — talent. Limbaugh and other top conservative talkers are silver-tongued, informative, and — importantly — entertaining. These are qualities that can’t be conjured out of nowhere, and designated liberal-radio saviors have tended not to have the requisite talent “on loan from God” (as Limbaugh puts it). There have been conservative failures at talk radio for the same reason. Without the right mix of substance and entertainment, a host will fail to get ratings, and, with that, be yanked from the air. “Ratings” is a word that appears only once in passing in the Center for American Progress report, because then it would have to acknowledge that conservative radio is successful exactly because it gets listeners. Broadcasters go where the money is. If a liberal could draw the kind of listeners — and hence the kind of advertising dollars — as Limbaugh, he too would be on more than 600 stations. This is why Spanish-language radio is such a growth commodity. Not because broadcasters have an agenda to Hispanicize America, or because there’s a structural imbalance that favors Spanish-language over German- or French-language programming, but because there’s an audience for it. The Center for American Progress wants to short-circuit the market. Having bureaucrats determine whether radio stations are serving the public interest is inherently dangerous. There are times — like now, in the debate about the immigration bill — when Democrats and Republicans in Washington will agree that conservative talk radio is not serving the public interest, because it brings to the table public sentiment that the establishment prefers to ignore. The report avoids directly calling for a renewal of the constitutionally dubious Fairness Doctrine that mandated equal time for conservative and liberal opinions, although some Democratic lawmakers aren’t so circumspect. After five years of opposing most assertions of government power to fight terrorism, these liberals are ready to wield it to fight conservative talk radio. After maintaining that the First Amendment protects nude dancing, they are ready to argue that it doesn’t quite apply to people broadcasting conservative views over the airwaves. In our toxic contemporary politics, it’s a sign of success if you drive your opponents batty. Rush Limbaugh might be a structural imbalance, but his critics appear simply imbalanced.
MO No Call List-I re registered and still get unwanted calls.? The Missouri No call registry recently "ran-out" after 5 years, according to recent, local media. The message was interrpreted that you have to reregister your phone number if you want to remain on the MO No Call List. I reregistered my phone number more than 3 weeks ago, and I swear, I am receiving MORE calls from non-profit organizations (i.e. fire fighters, police canine units, etc.) and from Marketing Research Companies (i.e.Knowledge Networks, Robin #435-893-0167). I have emailed complaints via the Jay Nixon Mo No Call List website and called the toll free number to get an answer with no success. These people that call me are VERY rude and hang up on me even after I ask them to remove my phone number from their list. Anyone got any ideas how to stop these people? Got any ideas how I can make these callers miserable too?
How we can stop recurrance of terror attack in the country? Terrorists attacked so many temples in the past and now they have started attacking Muslim's mosque too. It is true that now when mosque is being targeted it stands proved that there is no religion of Terrorists. The main target of Jehadi group is to create panic and divide the society, to generate public annoyance, irritation and reactionary destruction of the property. They always get success and they can perform their devilous task anywhere in the country. They can target police head quarters, assemblies, parliament and any crowded place to cause loss and damage both to human being and properties. They have latest weapon and they develop new techniques of explosion all the time which our even army cannot visualize. They have huge financial strength and hence buy or produce any traditional weapon or even manufacture hitherto unknown mechanism to explode and cause destruction .They are not in lack of knowledge and rather they very much expert in marketing their product of terrorism. They have developed vast network of Jehadi throughout the world particularly in India. They hatch conspiracy to cause explosion, formulate solid strategy for the same and lastly successfully execute the same. Obviously they are great challenge to our political, administrative and military system. Our government especially Home Ministry always declare red alert in particular area where they explode. Our Prime Minister and so-called VIP dignitaries of the country will appeal to people to maintain peace and social harmony. Police will be given signal to have strict vigil on the area where incidents occur and so many other department of investigation will be deployed to find out who is behind the incident whether LeT,or SIMI or Al-Quida or some other group. No need to catch them and hang them. Even if they have been caught by armed forces our leaders plan how to release them with honour and dignity. Or else our own leaders will point accusing finger towards armed forces or police personnel for Human Right Violation. If one terrorist is killed in encounter they will spend crores of rupees whether the killed person was due to fault of police or army. Thousands of innocent person are killed in terror attacks and our leaders will hardly feel of Human right Violation. Anyway there is no stop on recurrence of terror attacks. One more Unique selling feature of our leaders specially Home Ministry is that if any temple is attacked our Home minister will give instruction to state governments to maintain strict vigil on all important temples. If the attack is on assembly in a state our home Minster will advise all state government to ensure security of asseembly. If the attack is on Airport , order will be given for safety and security of all airports. If masjid is under attack they have been impressing upon the states to get in touch with the management of the respective mosques and work out a security plan along with the police. And so on... It is a usual style of functioning of our government. They never bother for whether their instructions are being followed by state government in true spirit or not. Their plan is formulated to counter and give retort to terrorists and ensure peace, safety and security of the nation .But unfortunately none of the plans is given due weightage by state governments, district administration or even police and army personnel. This is why terrorist always succeed in execution of their destructive plans and government invariably fail to stop their (that of terrorists) malicious and devilous activiteis. One after other attacks takes place and I will say government is silent spectator of all misdeeds of terrorists and totally incompetent to fight out the menace of terrorism from the country. It is crystal clear to even layman that management, administration and devotion to target is more effective in the camps of terrorists than that in our administrative offices, police departments, armed forces .Now it is desirable that our government surrenders and invite the groups of terrorists to rule the country formally. Otherwise we will have to outsource our safety and security to some other powerful nation. I would like to mention here our political leaders and most of the officers assigned the task of control, monitoring and execution of our big plans are actually busy in earning money through corrupt practices; accumulate wealth for their forthcoming hundred generations. Right from minister to a peon, all are indulged in malpractices. They hardly get time to go though instructions from higher authorities and neither do they think it fit and moral duty to perform their task. As such all plans in our country miserably fail in the stage of execution. Our leaders are expert in Bhasanwazi and they can very well please their votes during election .But our leaders cannot safeguard our interest; they are incompetent to ensure safety, security and integrity of the nation. It is therefore desirable to outsource our safety to some foreign country.Or else government can call for tender for security from private musclemen, militants, security agencies to provide perfect execution of plans and to provide security to Nation and safeguard us from foreign-sponsored terror attacks.. This will give an added opportunity to ministers, political leaders and administrative officers to earn more and more through demand of certain percentage of the value of such contract as bribe.
Anybody interested in reading a long but interesting article about the little Known Genocide in Armenia ? Armenian Genocide Holocaust ------------- The plans of the 1915-23 Armenian Genocide, where a million and half Armenians perished in a barbaric way in their ancestral lands in modern Turkey, actually were drawn up and were in place by the year 1910 or 1912. There is the book "Inner Folds of the Ottoman Revolution" written by Mevlan Zadeh Rifat in Turkish and published in 1929, the author, a pro-sultan Turk, claims that the "Armenian genocide was decided in August 1910 and October 1911, by a Young Turk committee composed entirely of displaced Balkan Jews in the format of a syncretist Jewish-Muslim sect which included Talaat, Enver, Behaeddin Shakir, Jemal, and Nizam posting as Muslims. It met in the Rothschild-funded Grand Orient loge/hotel of Salonika." Syncretism means a combination of different forms of belief or practice; masonism fits that description. As the masons started the 1897 revolution in France with the cry "liberty, fraternity, equality," Young Turks used the same slogan in their revolution of 1908. A 1994 conference paper/lecture by Joseph Brewda of Schiller Institute entitled "Palmerson launches Young Turks to permanently control Middle East " claims the founder of the Young Turks to be a certain Jew by the name of Emmanuel Carasso. He states: "Carasso set up the Young Turk secret society in the 1890s in Salonika, then part of Turkey, and now part of Greece. Carasso was also the grand master of an Italian masonic lodge there, called 'Macedonia Resurrected.' The lodge was the headquarters of the Young Turks, and all the top Young Turk leadership were members." Further on Mr. Brewda says: "During the Young Turk regime, Carasso continued to play a leading role. He met with the sultan, to tell him that he was overthrown. He was in charge of putting the sultan under house arrest. He ran the Young Turk intelligence network in the Balkans. And he was in charge of all food supplies in the empire during World War I." It is ironic that four centuries after the Turkish sultans welcomed the expelled European Jews into Turkey, certain Jews belonging to secret societies and to Zionism will kick the sultan out of power early in 20th century, destroy the Ottoman Empire, and celebrated their victory by massacring by proxy almost the whole Christian Armenian people, one million and half Armenians; half million Greeks; and half million Christian Assyrians & Arameans. In 1982, after the Israeli army conquered Lebanon, they celebrated their victory by massacring by proxy children and women in the Palestinian camp of Shattila, in Lebanon, by allowing Lebanese Phalanger militia fighters to move into the camp for two days and murder its inhabitants. Eighty percent of the camp were killed. Nearly all of the dead were old men, women and children and all of them had been unarmed. Not one gun, not one knife was found in their possession, claims a Palestinian witness. All this according to the percepts of the Talmud, the Satanic Bible of the Jews, which encourages Jews to kill, directly or indirectly, by sayings like: "Every Jew who spills the blood of the godless, is doing the same as making a sacrifice to God." Talmud: Bammidber Raba c21 & Jalkut 772. In the eyes of Talmudists all non-Jews are godless. And "It is the law to kill anyone who denies the Torah. The Christians belong to the denying ones of the Torah." Talmud: Coschen Hamischpat, Hagah 425. Very neatly put sentence indeed. Jesus came and shed his blood for us in order to save humanity and put an end to human and animal sacrifices practiced by Talmudist Jews who believe that the shedding of the blood of the innocents is a prerequisite of their reptilian gods, specially before embarking on an enterprise. They have orchestrated the massacres and slaughters of millions and millions of humanity so that their demonic gods will be appeased and grand them a new homeland in the near-east. Apparently, the sacrifice of hundreds of millions of humanity during the first half of the twenty century (including the six million Jews of Nazi Holocaust) have appeased their gods and their wish was granted. Back to the Young Turks. Mr. Brewda writes: "Another important area was the press. While in power, the Young Turks ran several newspapers, including 'The Young Turk,' whose editor was none other than the Russian Zionist leader Vladimir Jabotinsky. Jabotinsky had been educated as a young man in Italy." Mr. Brewda, ignoring the possibility that Talaat could have been a secret infiltrated Jew, writes: "Of course, there were also some Turks who helped lead the Young Turk movement. For example, Talaat Pasha. Talaat was the interior minister and dictator of the regime during World war I. He had been a member of Carasso's Italian masonic lodge in Salonika. One year prior to the 1908 coup, Talaat became the grand master of the Scottish Rite Masons in the Ottoman Empire. If you go to the [archives of] Scottish Rite headquarters in Washington, D.C., you can find that most of the Young Turk leaders were officials in the Scottish Rite." By 1916 the British and French, overpowered by greed, already had a secret agreement to divide the Ottoman Empire between themselves. Presently Hitler's "Mien Kempt " anti-semitic book is a best-seller in Turkey, it is published by various Turkish publishers by thousands and thousands. Are the Turks finally waking up and realizing that their Sultan's refusal to grant Palestine to the Zionist Jews as a homeland had cost them their centuries-old empire? And are the subjugated Turks about to discover who their real rulers are? There are claims that the blue-eyed founder of modern Turkey, Kemal Ataturk had Jewish origins. And it is known that at least two presidents of modern Turkey (Inonu and Bayar) were Jewish. In Istanbul, which was the capital and the power center of the Ottoman Empire, there was only few thousands (less than 10,000) Jews and some 200,000 Armenians and Greeks who controlled the trade, finances and arts of the Empire. Jews and Christians were in strong competition through hundreds of years of the life of the empire. Jews were the losers and Christians were the winner always because the Sultans ( there were very few bad sultans who killed Christians) listened to and favored the Christians. For the Zionist Jews to take over Turkey, its Christians had to be eliminated; and that is another ugly facade of the first Genocide of the 20th Century in Turkey. Another source is the lengthy article "The Armenian & Jewish Genocide Project: Eliminating Ethnic Conflict Along the Oil Route From Baku to the Suez Canal Region " written by Clifford Shack and posted in his web-site. Mr. Shack writes: "In the 1880's, the French branch of the Rothschild family acquired interests in Russia's Baku oil fields in an effort to supply their refinery on the Adriatic with cheap Russian oil. In exchange for these interests they built a railroad linking Baku to the newly acquired Black Sea port of Batum. This opened up the Baku oil, a major world supply, to the world. With the success of the new railroad, the Rothschilds had more oil than they could actually sell. Overcoming their fear of competing with the giant Standard oil [of USA], they sought out the huge [Far East] markets east of Suez." Further on Mr. Shack makes his point: "The decision by the shrewd French Rothschild branch to diversify into other areas of oil exploitation was, presumably, a calculated one. Three years after they joined Royal Dutch, production at Baku would come to an abrupt halt in 1905. Although shaken by political activity, the principal disruption was due to the violence of the ethnic conflict between the region's Muslims and the minority population of Armenians who are Christians. This ethnic conflict caused the first interruption of oil distribution to the world market. Standard oil was quick to supplant the needs of the effected markets as its source was operating under the blanket of peace. The Royal/Dutch/Shell Group (and the Nobles) watched their Baku investments go up in flames. Ethnic conflict was at the root of the matter. It could be safely assumed that they were taking measures to eliminate the possibility of that happening in the future." Oil corporations seem to have learned their lessons from history because before the construction of present-day Baku-Ceyhan pipeline has began, someone has made sure that no Armenians were left in Baku anymore. Mr. Shack notes that "the mere elimination of the Armenian population of Baku would not solve the problem of ethnic conflict in that region. The surrounding areas would provide reservoir effect in resupplying the conflicting minority element." And he asks: "was the removal [in 1915-23] of a small minority like the Armenians [from historical Armenia] a fair price to pay for the peace in a region so crucial to the development and investment of the Far East?" Apparently Mr. Shack ignores the factor of revenge raging in the heart of human beasts. Mr. Shacks answers his own question by stating in his article about the big business or big corporations: "It would be fair to say that the genocide of a group of a million or so, to serve the benefit of a billion or so [in the Far East], is less of a question of should it be done, than how it could be done. So as not to reveal any plausible motive which could link the actual planners to the genocide, the scheme involved a proxy party [namely the Muslim Turks, Kurds & Azeris] , which was manipulated through layers of influence, providing sufficient cover for the planners." In chapter 30 of the book of Isaiah we read God speaking by His prophet: "Woe to the rebellious children, who execute a plan, but not Mine, and make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, in order to add sin to sin;...For this is a rebellious people, false sons, sons who refuse to listen to the instruction of the Lord." This is not the whole story; there is an evil aliens connection to it. Amitakh Stanford, in her web-site <http://www.xeeatwelve.com... and in her article "The Anunnaki Remnants Are Still on Earth" writes: "It is these horrible beings, the Anunnaki, that Sitchin has written an apology for. Reading Sitchin's material, he has painted these evil aliens as palatably as possible by presenting the story that they are trying to save their own planet, and leaves the readers to believe that after that is accomplished, they would leave without a trace, so to speak. But, the Anunnaki came here to conquer and enslave, not for any worthy purpose whatsoever, nor will they leave voluntarily. "Anunnaki cull people and other species from the planet. Before, this was often referred to as genocide. However, today the more euphemistic term of "ethnic cleansing" is used. The disdain of other races is another vile Anunnaki-sponsored trait to divide people into factions and create hatred and distrust of one another. Any fair look at history will verify this as true. The twentieth-century Holocaust is one such example." So after all, we are not dealing with normal human beings, but by humans who are possessed with those alien entities and humans that are manipulated, influenced, and given instructions by those evil aliens in their various factions. _____ This research article is not copyrighted. Why do Democrat Tactics Work? BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Ron in Houston, thanks for calling. You're next on the EIB Network, sir. Hello. CALLER: Mega dittos, mighty one. The reason I called, this has been a frustration for about the last three months right now. How long is everybody going to forget how many times the Democrats have tried to give away everything this country's done? I'm to the point now, I'll put up the money to basically put most of the Democratic Party on Ritalin because they're becoming an out-of-control reality program. In fact, they may be the basis for the original reality programs out there. Can you explain to me how they keep getting away with the junk they're putting out there and they do it over and over and over again. I watched it during Reagan, and when the huge threat of the Soviet Union was out there. The Soviet Union was kind of a rusty bucket ready to fall over, but until the day it happened, Reagan was looked at as a fool. I'm not particularly a big fan of George Bush, but George Bush can get the job done. Let him be president. I'm sorry. I want to just scream right now. RUSH: Wait. If I understood everything you're saying, and your call is a little distorted, you're wondering how in the world people keep falling for the same Democrat trick? CALLER: It's the same thing over and over and over again. I'm an ex-Navy officer. I spent a lot of time out on US aircraft carriers. I spent a lot of time watching situations and I'm sitting there watching what's going on and I'm watching what the media is spitting back out in the States, and there's no correlation. RUSH: Well, I explained this. Look, there's so many factors in this answer. In the first place, public education system. Young skulls full of mush have grown up not learning about history. They've grown up being told that Bill Clinton was a great president, and that Abe Lincoln is worth one paragraph. They've, in many cases, grown up and been told that the white settlers of this country, the original settlers were racists, sexists, bigots, homophobes. They've been inculcated with conflict resolution that tells them that we're the problem and we have to cave and give up. We also have a bunch of people here in a nation of prosperity and vast affluence who don't have to pay attention to these uncomfortable thing if they don't want to. They don't have to, quote, "sacrifice," as such when the Democrats and the media in concert convince them there's no problem. It's something they'd like to hear, and so they believe it. BREAK TRANSCRIPT I just had a conversation with our official call screener today, Bo Snerdley, in his office. He says people on the phones are fit to be tied, particularly at Nancy Pelosi. They're throwing the word "traitor" around all over the place. It leads me to try to explain in a little bit more depth an answer to a question we got from a caller near the end of the last hour. He was beside himself, this former Navy man, and his perception is the American people buy everything the Democrats say, and he doesn't understand it. After they said Reagan was the biggest problem facing the free world, Reagan dispatched the Soviet Union. His point was that there are so many instances where you can look, historically, and find that liberal Democrats are wrong in what they claim, not just in foreign policy, but their whole social safety net program has been a disaster, and why people don't see this, and it's very frustrating thing to him. He wanted to know why I thought that was the case, and I had a minute and a half to give an answer. For a minute and a half, it was a brilliant answer. A better answer than anybody else could utter in a minute and a half. That's because I'm a highly trained broadcast specialist who understands the nature of brevity as the soul of wit. But let me expand on this, because it is a frustrating thing, and I feel it sometimes, too, even in the midst of my optimism. Remember, I have said that during all of this the Democrats are sowing their seeds for a massive landslide defeat. There is history for that, too. There is plenty of history that the American people don't buy what the Democrats sell. The reason so many of you think that most Americans are is because of the Drive-By Media. Now, the Drive-By Media no longer has its monopoly but it's still very powerful and it's a one-note samba. It is pro-Democrat. It is pro-liberal. It is anti-Bush. It is anti-Republican, and it is relentless, and I want to remind you of something else. Everybody knows that the three nightly newscasts on the major three networks are not as large, singularly, as they used to be in terms of audience. Combined, they still reach about 30 million people a night, whereas Cronkite used to do that all by himself. There is a new media, and there's an alternative, and it's growing. It's burgeoning, and it's creating problems for the liberal Democrats, although those problems are not often recounted in their house organs, such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Drive-By television networks, the cable networks. So you're looking for validation that they are weakening, and you don't see it because what you watch on television, 90%, portrays the Democrats as omnipotent and powerful, all over the place, gaining strength, the American people love and support them, and that impression has to be considered somewhat valid, what with the election results of last November. At the same time, I don't think it's as pervasive as it used to be. But let's talk about the people that watch the nightly newscasts for one second. Many of you in this audience are multitaskers and you access a whole lot of different sources of media. You listen to this program, and you go on the Internet. You watch some cable news. You're all over the place. You read various different things. You would be surprised at the number of Americans whose only source of news is the nightly newscasts. Now, they're primarily elderly, upper middle-age and beyond. You can see that by looking at the commercials -- and I don't mean this to sound funny, even though it is. But you're watching a newscast and the commercials are burial plots here and Preparation H over there and heart medicine here and Lipitor over there. When basically 80% of the commercials are medicines to sustain your life for another five years, you know who the audience is, and that's habitual. They have not transformed into the new media. They are out there. These are people, too, that have landline telephones. These are people that have not moved into cell phones and the Internet, and guess who it is that pollsters call? Pollsters have a tough time getting hold of people with cell phones, and they're having a tougher and tougher time getting hold of people that use landline phones. But this crowd that we're talking about does; they still do. This generational shift has not been completed yet, and the people that produce these nightly newscasts are well aware of this, and they're always making efforts here to try to lower their demographics. But they've got a problem, because their newscasts happen at the end of the day when a lot of people already know what they're going to see when they turn on the nightly news. But those who watch it -- and there's 30 million of them every night, averaged, if you combine all three -- it's their first taste of the day, and they believe it. It's hook, line, and sinker. It's the Bible to them, and that's it. So there's a large chunk of it, and then you have, sadly, ladies and gentlemen, a lot of people who are just sponges, and they access the Drive-By Media, and they just believe it. It carries with it this note of authority. You know from your own experience growing up: If you read it in the paper, it was true. It's just like law enforcement never, ever falsely charges people. Law enforcement never screws up. If they say somebody did it, you think they did it. That's just human nature. I'm not even talking politics here. There's certain institutions in this country that have always enjoyed a tremendous amount of credibility and respect and very few people have ever questioned it, and the Drive-By Media is one of those. That's really the root of the question. How in the world can people continue to believe this stuff, not just the media, but how can they believe the Democrats when time and time again everything the Democrats say turns out to be not true? Here's a Navy man calling. "How can it be that people are not outraged over Pelosi? How can it be that they're not outraged over the fact that the Democrats are trying to secure the defeat and un-fund, de-fund the United States Military?" Why are there not massive protests in the street of anger and outrage over this? Well, there are answers to this, and they're traditional. Most of the people that would do those kind of protests don't ever protest. The protesters are the malcontent leftists who make it their job. They go out and they secure rent-a-mobs and they try to create chaos and tumult and this is what the media is doing, and the Democrats, they don't want you happy. They don't want you content, not with a Republican in the White House, and certainly not with a Republican they think is illegitimate, and certainly not when the Republicans run the House and Senate or ran the House and Senate. They don't want you happy. And then you've gotta factor in human nature. Sad to say, it's much easier to be a pessimist than it is to be an optimist. It's much easier to be doom and gloom. It's much easier to think the worst is going to happen than to believe the best will happen, and most people's experiences in their lives are that excrement happens, and good things are rare and they're unique, and that's why they're rare and unique, because they don't happen that much. So you factor all of these things together. You know, why is it is that Nancy Pelosi is not the equivalent of Jane Fonda, for crying out loud? She's trying to undermine her own country for her own self-interests and the interests of her party. I know it's frustrating to watch this stuff and think that most of your fellow citizens are just a bunch of blithering idiot sponges soaking it all up. I don't think it's as bad as you think, but it is a problem. There are a lot of people who are not thinkers. There are a lot of people who are not curious. There are a lot of people who want to be mired in misery or doom and gloom. It's a natural mind-set, and it's fed to them each and every day. But, as I say, if you go back and look at the number of things, historically, the Democrats don't win every election, and everything that you think is going to happen doesn't in regards to their prominence and victory. I'm telling you, I know some of you just think I'm whistling Dixie here, but far more people in this country than you might believe or you might be aware of, are watching what's happening and are just as outraged as you are, and when it comes time for them to express themselves, they will do so, and the Democrats are cruising for a major humiliation again. I don't know how soon. It may not be 2008, it may be 2010 or 2012. I'm talking about electorally, but it is going to happen. They're reconstructing the exact circumstances they created post-Vietnam going into Watergate and that they think led them to the Promised Land. Of course they lost in a 49-state landslide with George McGovern as their nominee. Guess who Democrats are talking to about advising them for their future? They're out there having conferences with George McGovern. They have a perverted sense of their own success. When it's defined and when it happens, or how it's defined and when it has happened, this is something that's just going to take time to play out. The tough thing for those of you who are affected by this, is you never, ever see this even when they do lose. Even when they're shellacked, you don't see humiliation or embarrassment in the Drive-By Media. The minute they lose, they ratchet it up again. "Okay, what are the Democrats going to have to do to win?" There is never credit for Reagan, never credit for Bush, never credit for victorious Republicans. They always slough it off to, "Well, again, the right-wing Christian hayseeds, you know? They came through. Democrats failed to," blah, blah, some other thing. Victory is never legitimate. It's because of some mistake Democrats made, and they start out trying to correct the mistakes and the media helps them out with this. It's a one-note samba for the first time in the Drive-By Media. But it's not as one sided and had as bad in terms of the perception of the majority of the American people as you believe, as you might think. Listen to the number of people who call here asking this question. You are not just lone voices appearing on this program. There are countless others, thousands, hundreds of thousands who are sitting out there and throwing things on the radio going, "Yeah! Yeah! Say it again! Say it louder!" They're just as irritated as you are. They don't have an outlet, and they're not interviewed by the Drive-By Media and so forth. News is a product like any other product that's marketed and packaged and put on the grocery shelves or any other store shelf, for sale. I don't care how lofty they think their position is because it's constitutionally protected. I don't care about any of that. These people put together an agenda. There are people (they're working right now) putting together these newscasts this afternoon and tonight, and don't believe that they're not putting these things together with their own agendas and their own desires and what they think will look good, what they think will get ratings in some cases. But for the first the most part, it's not about objectivity or reporting real news or anything of the sort. Their worldview is what it is, and things that don't fit in their worldview they don't even see. So it's buck-up time. (sigh) I hate to being an I told you so, but I warned everybody back in October, this was the kind of thing you're going to have to put up with if the Republicans lose the election. It's bad enough when they win, the Democrats are relentless -- and the Drive-Bys. But now they won, and, of course, they're puffing their chests out and they're beating their chests like King Kong, Tarzan, Mighty Joe Young, whatever you want, and they're just feeling their oats right now, and it's that pompous arrogance and condescension that's also offensive in the way they go about things. But you gotta have faith, folks. The Democrats have not totally triumphed, and they never will totally triumph. There are too many of you who care too much, who will stop it. One other factor -- and I've mentioned this before, too. Particularly when it comes to the war on terror, war in Iraq, the Drive-Bys have done one hell of a job of convincing enough Americans that there's no threat. In fact, not only is there no threat, there wouldn't be a threat at all if we weren't attacking Muslims, if Bush weren't in the White House. 9/11? Why, it was just a mere episode, and most people don't want to remember it. Most people don't want to be reminded of it. They don't want to think that they're going to be, their whole lives, constantly on a vigil protecting themselves and waiting for the next attack. That's not what being an American is. Being an American is to be insulated from the stuff that happens in the Middle East, insulated from the stuff that happens in the Third World, insulated from the stuff that happens in places like Afghanistan and what's going on in the Philippines now, and in some of Indonesia. That's not what being an American is. Being an American is about having as carefree a life as possible with the normal trials and tribulations, but it does not include getting up every day and worrying to death over whether another couple jets are going to go into another couple buildings and another 3,000 people be incinerated. If anybody comes along and convince the American people they don't have to worry about that, then they'll gladly take the bait -- and, voila! It is happening, and because of our affluence and prosperity, people are able to go live their lives however they choose and pay scant or no attention to this whatsoever, and then, some of these people, after deciding that they don't want to pay any attention to this and that they don't want to live their lives under constant fear, constant threat that this could happen again, they don't want to be vigilant about this, all it takes to add to that is everyday a pummeling of the president and the whole thing about the war on terror and how we're creating circumstances. Now the Iranians are doing what they're doing because of us. They were peace-loving people before we came along! The Iraqis had been better off with Saddam Hussein. So you couple all of that natural mind-set of what it is to be an American or what it has been to be an American, with a desire for that to continue, and then you portray the "threat" to being an American as living in the embodiment of George W. Bush. Well, you can see how some people would buy into that, because everybody wants to blame somebody other than themselves. You might say, "Well, why don't they blame the Democrats?" Because nowhere in the media are the Democrats being blamed, other than here. We're not insignificant. We're not small by any stretch. I'll tell you, Fox News is what it is, but it's a speck compared to the three networks, all the rest of the Drive-Bys and the magazines and the newspapers and so forth and so on. There are reasons for this. There are explanations for it. Solutions? Well, in my case I just rely on the ultimate judgment and decency of a majority of the American people, the vast amount of times, to prevail, and I still believe that.
Do Turkeys Enjoy Thanksgiving? Like Old Imperialism, New Imperialism relies for its success on a network of agents - corrupt local elites who service Empire. We all know the sordid story of Enron in India. The then-Maharashtra government signed a power purchase agreement that gave Enron profits that amounted to 60 percent of India's entire rural development budget. A single American company was guaranteed a profit equivalent to funds for infrastructural development for about 500 million people! Unlike in the old days, the New Imperialist doesn't need to trudge around the tropics risking malaria or diarrhea or early death. New Imperialism can be conducted on e-mail. The vulgar, hands-on racism of Old Imperialism is outdated. The cornerstone of New Imperialism is New Racism. The best allegory for New Racism is the tradition of "turkey pardoning" in the United States. Every year since 1947, the National Turkey Federation has presented the US President with a turkey for Thanksgiving. Every year, in a show of ceremonial magnanimity, the President spares that particular bird (and eats another one). After receiving the presidential pardon, the Chosen One is sent to Frying Pan Park in Virginia to live out its natural life. The rest of the 50 million turkeys raised for Thanksgiving are slaughtered and eaten on Thanksgiving Day. ConAgra Foods, the company that has won the Presidential Turkey contract, says it trains the lucky birds to be sociable, to interact with dignitaries, school children and the press. (Soon they'll even speak English!) That's how New Racism in the corporate era works. A few carefully bred turkeys - the local elites of various countries, a community of wealthy immigrants, investment bankers, the occasional Colin Powell or Condoleezza Rice, some singers, some writers (like myself) - are given absolution and a pass to Frying Pan Park. The remaining millions lose their jobs, are evicted from their homes, have their water and electricity connections cut, and die of AIDS. Basically they're for the pot. But the Fortunate Fowls in Frying Pan Park are doing fine. Some of them even work for the IMF and the WTO - so who can accuse those organizations of being antiturkey? Some serve as board members on the Turkey Choosing Committee - so who can say that turkeys are against Thanksgiving? They participate in it! Who can say the poor are anti-corporate globalization? There's a stampede to get into Frying Pan Park. So what if most perish on the way? As part of the project of New Racism we also have New Genocide. New Genocide in this new era of economic interdependence can be facilitated by economic sanctions. New Genocide means creating conditions that lead to mass death without actually going out and killing people. Denis Halliday, who was the UN humanitarian coordinator in Iraq between 1997 and 1998 (after which he resigned in disgust), used the term genocide to describe the sanctions in Iraq. In Iraq the sanctions outdid Saddam Hussein's best efforts by claiming more than half a million children's lives. In the new era, apartheid as formal policy is antiquated and unnecessary. International instruments of trade and finance oversee a complex system of multilateral trade laws and financial agreements that keep the poor in their bantustans anyway. Its whole purpose is to institutionalize inequity. Why else would it be that the US taxes a garment made by a Bangladeshi manufacturer twenty times more than a garment made in Britain? Why else would it be that countries that grow cocoa beans, like the Ivory Coast and Ghana, are taxed out of the market if they try to turn it into chocolate? Why else would it be that countries that grow 90 percent of the world's cocoa beans produce only 5 percent of the world's chocolate? Why else would it be that rich countries that spend over a billion dollars a day on subsidies to farmers demand that poor countries like India withdraw all agricultural subsidies, including subsidized electricity? Why else would it be that after having been plundered by colonizing regimes for more than half a century, former colonies are steeped in debt to those same regimes and repay them some $382 billion a year?
Anyone intrested in writing a two page summary of this? FIBER KEEPS ITS PROMISE BY GEORGE GILDER "Today, I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs, and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law unfolds." Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner, John Malone, are you listening?" Get ready. Bandwidth will triple each year for the next 25, creating trillions in new wealth. Editor's note: Four years ago, Forbes ASAP published its first issue with a stunning prophecy by contributing editor George Gilder. Fiber optics, said George, had the potential to carry 25 trillion bits per second down a single strand. This represented a ten-thousandfold leap in carrying capacity over the 2.5 billion bits "barrier" long assumed by most experts in the field. What did George see that others had missed? One, a little-recognized (at the time) breakthrough called an erbium-doped amplifier, which keeps optical signals pure and strong over long distances. The other was a deep technical shift, with roots in the 1940s-era work of information theory pioneer Claude Shannon. If you believed Shannon, his logic dictated a new messaging scheme called wave division multiplexing. Though scorned by the experts four years ago, WDM now is emerging as the winner George had prophesied. The real winners will be all of us, as the coming world of cheap, unlimited bandwidth unfolds and at last fulfills the true potential of the information age. Here is George with an update. IMAGINE THAT IN 1975 YOU KNEW that Moore's law--the Intel chairman's projection of the doubling of the number of transistors on a microchip every 18 months--would hold for the rest of your lifetime. What if you knew that these transistors would run cooler, faster, better, and cheaper as they got smaller and were crammed more closely together? Suppose you knew the law of the microcosm: that the cost-effectiveness of any number of "n" transistors on a single silicon sliver would rise by the square of the increase in "n." As an investor knowing this Moore's law trajectory, you would have been able to predict and exploit a long series of developments: the emergence of the PC; its dominance over all other computer form factors; the success of companies making chips, disk drives, peripherals, and software for this machine. With a slight effort of intellect, you could have extended the insight and prophesied the digitization of watches, records (CDs), cellular phones, cameras, TVs, broadcast satellites, and other devices that can use miniaturized computer power. If you did not know precisely when each of these benisons would flourish, you would have known that each one was essentially inevitable. To calculate approximate dates, you had only to guess the product's optimal price of popularization and then match its need for mips (millions of instructions per second) of computer power with the cost of those mips as defined by Moore's law. Merely by using this technique of Moore's law matching--and holding to it with unshakable conviction for nearly 20 years--I became known as a "futurist." Today I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs, and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law unfolds. You can tell me about the 98% penetration of TVs in American homes, the continuing popularity of couch-potato entertainments, the effectiveness of broadcast advertising, and the profound and unbridgeable chasm between the office appliance and the living-room tube. But I will pay no attention. Just you wait--Jack Welch, Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch, John Malone, and David Jennings--the TV will die and you may be too late for the Net. It is now 1997, and a stream of dramatic events certifies that another law, as powerful and fateful and inexorable as Moore's, is gaining a similar sway over the future of technology. It is what I have termed the law of the telecosm. Its physical base lies in the same quantum realm of eigenstates and band gaps that governs the performance of transistors and also makes photons leap and lase. But the telecosm reaches beyond components to systems, combining the science of the electromagnetic spectrum with Claude Shannon's information theory. In essence, as frequencies rise and wavelengths drop, digital performance improves exponentially. Bandwidth rises, power usage sinks, antenna size shrinks, interference collapses, error rates plummet. The law of the telecosm ordains that the total bandwidth of communications systems will triple every year for the next 25 years. As communicators move up-spectrum, they can use bandwidth as a substitute for power, memory, and switching. This results in far cheaper and more efficient systems. In 1996, the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force. Parallel communications in all-optical networks became the dominant source of new bandwidth in telecom. Like Moore's law, the law of the telecosm will reshape the entire world of information technology. It defines the direction of technological advance, the vectors of growth, the sweet spots for finance. AMERICA'S DARK SECRET FOR MORE THAN A DECADE, American companies have been laying optical fiber strands at a pace of some 4,000 miles a day, for a total of more than 25 million strand miles. Five years ago, the top 10% of U.S. homes and businesses were, on average, a thousand households away from a fiber node; now they are a hundred households away. However, the imperial advance of this technology conceals a dark secret, which has led to a pervasive underestimation of the long-term impact of photonics. Sixty percent of the fiber remains "dark" (unused for communications) and even the leading-edge "lit" fiber is being used at less than one ten-thousandth of its intrinsic capacity. This problem has prompted leaders in the industry, from Bill Gates and Andy Grove to Bob Metcalfe and Mitch Kapor, to underrate drastically the impact of fiber optics. Restricting the speed and cost-effectiveness of fiber has been an electronic bottleneck and a regulatory noose. In order for the signal to be amplified, regenerated, or switched, the light pulses had to be transformed into electronic pulses by optoelectronic converters. For all the talk of the speed of light, fiber-optic systems therefore could pass bits no faster than the switching speed of transistors, which tops out at a cycle time of between 2.5 and 10 gigahertz. Meanwhile, telecom companies could not deploy new low-cost fiber products any faster than the switching speed of politicians and regulators, which tops out roughly at a cycle time of between 2.5 years and a rate of evolution measurable only by means of carbon 14. Nonetheless, the intrinsic capacity of every fiber line is not 2.5 gigahertz. Nor is it even 25 gigahertz, which is roughly the capacity of all the frequencies commonly used in the air, from AM radio to kA band satellite. The intrinsic capacity of every fiber thread, as thin as a human hair, is at the least one thousand times the capacity of what we call the "air." One thread could carry all the calls in America on the peak moment of Mother's Day. One fiber thread could carry 25 times more bits than last year's average traffic load of all the world's communications networks put together: an estimated terabit (trillion bits) a second. Over the last five years, technological breakthroughs and legislative loopholes have begun to open up this immense capacity to possible use. Following concepts pioneered and patented by David Payne at the University of Southampton in England, a Bell Laboratories group led by Emmanuel Desurvire and Randy Giles developed a workable all-optical device. They showed that a short stretch of fiber doped with erbium, a rare earth mineral, and excited by a cheap laser diode can function as a powerful amplifier over fully 4,500 gigahertz of the 25,000 gigahertz span. Introduced by Pirelli of Italy and popularized by Ciena Corporation of Savage, Maryland, and by Lucent and Alcatel, today such photonic amplifiers are a practical reality. Put in packages between two and three cubic inches in size, the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) fit anywhere in an optical network for enhancing signals without electronics. This invention overcame the most fundamental disadvantage of optical networks compared to electronic networks. You can tap into an electronic network as often as desired without eroding the voltage signal. Although resistance and capacitance will leach away the current, there are no splitting losses in a voltage divider. Photonic signals, by contrast, suffer splitting losses every time they are tapped; they lose photons until eventually there are none left. The cheap and compact all-optical amplifier solves this problem. It is an invention comparable in importance to the integrated circuit. Just as the integrated circuit made it possible to put an entire computer system on a single sliver of silicon, the all-optical amplifier makes it possible to put an entire system on a seamless seine of silica--glass. Unleashing the law of the telecosm, it makes possible a new global economy of bandwidth abundance. Five years ago when I first celebrated the radical implications of erbium-doped amplifiers, skepticism reigned. I was summoned to Bellcore, where the first optical networks had been built and then abandoned, to learn the acute limits of the technology from Charles Brackett and his team. I had offered the vision of a broadband fibersphere--a worldwide web of glass and light--where computer users could tune into favored frequencies as readily as radios tune into frequencies in the atmosphere today. But Brackett and other Bellcore experts told me that my basic assumption was false. It was no simpler, they said, to tune into one of scores of frequencies on a fiber than to select time slots in a time-division-multiplexed (TDM) bitstream. Indeed, electronic switching technology was moving faster than optical technology. In the face of the momentum and installed base of electronic switching and multiplexing, the fibersphere with hundreds of tunable frequencies would remain a fantasy, like Ted Nelson's Xanadu. In 1997 the fantasy is coming true around the world. Xanadu has become the World Wide Web. The erbium-doped fiber amplifier is an explosively growing $250 million business. Electronic TDM seems to have topped out at 2.5 gigabits a second. TDM gear has suffered a series of delays and nagging defects and so far has failed in the market. Electronic TDM failed not only because it pushed the envelope of electronics but also because it violated the new paradigm. In single-mode fiber, the two key impediments are nonlinearities in the glass and chromatic dispersion (the blurring of bit pulses because even in a single band different frequencies move at different speeds). Chromatic dispersion increases by the square of the bit rate, and the impact of nonlinearities rises with the power of the signal. High-powered, high-bit-rate TDM flunked both telecosm tests. By contrast, wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) follows the laws of the telecosm; it succeeds by wasting bandwidth and stinting on power. WDM takes some 33% more bandwidth per bit than TDM, but it reduces power to combat nonlinearity and divides the bitstream into multiple frequencies in order to combat dispersion. Thus it can extend the distance or increase capacity by a factor of four or more today and can lay the foundations for the fibersphere tomorrow. In 1996 the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force. Parallel communications in all-optical networks, long depicted as a broadband pipe dream, crushed all competitors and became the dominant source of new bandwidth in the world telecom network. The year began with a trifold explosion at the Conference on Optical Fiber Communication in San Jose when three companies--Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, NTT Labs, and Fujitsu--all announced terabit-per-second WDM transmissions down a single fiber. Sprint confirmed the significance of the laboratory breakthroughs by announcing deployment of Ciena's MultiWave 1600 WDM system, so called because it can increase the capacity of a single fiber thread by 1,600%. The revolution continues in 1997. At the beginning of January, NEC declared that by increasing the number of bits per hertz from one to three, it had raised the laboratory WDM record to three terabits per second. During 1996, MCI had increased the speed of its Internet backbone by a factor of 25, from 45 megabits a second to 1.2 gigabits. On January 6, Fred Briggs, chief engineering officer at MCI, announced that his company is in the process of installing new WDM equipment from Hitachi and Pirelli that increases the speed of its phone network backbone to 40 gigabits per second. Accelerating MCI's previous plans by some two years, the new system will use a more limited form of wavelength-division multiplexing to put four 10-gigabit in-cause formation streams on a single fiber thread. The first deployment will use existing facilities on a 275-mile route between Chicago and St. Louis, but the technology will be extended to the entire network. This move will consummate a nearly thousandfold upgrade of the MCI backbone, from 45 megabits per second to 40 gigabits, within some 36 months. Ciena, meanwhile, has announced technology that allows transmission of 100 gigabits per second. Its February IPO was the most important since Netscape (market cap at the end of the first trading day: $3.4 billion). Why? Ciena is the industry leader in open standard WDM gear. During the first six months the MultiWave 1600 was available, through October 1996, the firm achieved $54.8 million in sales and $15 million in net income. (Lucent is believed to be the overall leader with more than $100 million of mostly proprietary AT&T systems.) At the same time, the trans-Pacific consortium announced that it would deploy 100-gigabit-per-second fiber in its new link between the United States and Asia. A powerful new player in these markets will be Tellabs, currently the fastest-growing supplier of electronic digital cross-connect switches and other optical switching gear. In a further coup, following its purchase of broadband digital radio pioneer Steinbrecher, Tellabs has signed up all 12 principals in IBM's all-optical team. Headed by Paul Green, recent chairman of the IEEE Communications Society and author of the leading text on fiber networks, and by Rajiv Ramaswami, coauthor of a new 1997 text on the subject, the IBM group built the world's first fully functioning all-optical networks (AONs), the Rainbow series. Tellabs now owns the 11 AON patents and 100 listed technology disclosures of the group. The implications of the WDM paradigm go beyond simple data pipes. The greatest impact of all-optical technology will likely come in consumer markets. A portent is Artel Video Systems of Marlborough, Massachusetts, which recently introduced a fiber-based WDM system that can transmit 48 digital video channels, 288 CD-quality audio bitstreams, and 64 data channels on one fiber line. Aggregating contributions from a variety of content sources--each on different fiber wavelengths--and delivering them to consumers who tune into favored frequencies on conventional cable, the Artel system represents a key step into the fibersphere. It can be used for new services by either cable TV companies or telcos. The deeper significance of the Artel product, however, is its use of bandwidth as a replacement for transistors and switches. The Artel system works on dark fiber without compression. The video uses 200-megabit-per-second bitstreams (compare MPEG2 at 4 to 6 megabytes per second) that permit lossless transmissions suitable for medical imaging, and obviate dedicated processing of compression codes at the two ends. A move to massively parallel communications analogous to the move to parallel computers, all-optical networks promise nearly boundless bandwidth in fiber. According to Ewart Lowe of British Telecom, whose labs at Martlesham Heath in Ipswich have been a fount of all-optical technology, the new paradigm will reduce the cost of transport by a factor of 10. For example, the optoelectronic amplifiers previously used in fiber networks entailed nine power-hungry bipolar microchips for each wavelength, rather than a simple loop of doped silica that covers scores of wavelengths. As these systems move down through the network hierarchy, the growth of network bandwidth and cost-effectiveness will not only outpace Moore's law, it will also excel the rise in bandwidth within computers--their internal "buses" connecting their microprocessors to memory and input-output. While MCI and Sprint move to deploy technology that functions at 40 gigabits a second, current computers and workstations command buses that run at a rate of close to 1 gigabit a second. This change in the relationship between the bandwidth of networks and the bandwidth of computers will transform the architecture of information technology. As Robert Lucky of Bellcore puts it, "Perhaps we should transmit signals thousands of miles to avoid even the simplest processing function." Lucky implies that the law of the telecosm eclipses the law of the microcosm. Actually, the law of the microcosm makes distributed computers (smart terminals) more efficient regardless of the cost of linking them together. The law of the telecosm makes broadband networks more efficient regardless of how numerous and smart are the terminals. Working together, however, these two laws of wires and switches impel ever more widely distributed information systems, with processing and memory in the optimal locations. WHAT SHOULD THE MAJOR PLAYERS DO NOW? FOR THE TELEPHONE COMPANIES, the age of ever smarter terminals mandates the emergence of ever dumber networks. Telephone companies may complain of the large costs of the transformation of their system, but they command capital budgets as large as the total revenues of the cable industry. Telcos may recoil in horror at the idea of dark fiber, but they command webs of the stuff 10 times larger than any other industry. Dumb and dark networks may not fit the phone company self-image or advertising posture. But they promise larger markets than the current phone company plan to choke off their own future in the labyrinthine nets of an "intelligent switching fabric" always behind schedule and full of software bugs. Telephone switches (now 80% software) are already too complex to keep pace with the efflorescence of the Internet. While computers become ever more lean and mean, turning to reduced instruction-set processors and Java stations, networks need to adopt reduced instruction-set architectures. The ultimate in dumb and dark is the fibersphere now incubating in their magnificent laboratories. The entrepreneurial folk in the computer industry may view this wrenching phone company adjustment with some satisfaction. But computer firms must also adjust. Now addicted to the use of transistors to solve the problems of limited bandwidth, the computer industry must use transistors to exploit the nearly unlimited bandwidth. When home-based machines are optimized for manipulating high-resolution digital video at high speeds, they will necessarily command what are now called supercomputer powers. This will mean that the dominant computer technology will first emerge not in the office market but in the consumer market. The major challenge for the computer industry is to change its focus from a few hundred million offices already full of computer technology to a billion living rooms now nearly devoid of it. Cable companies possess the advantage of already owning dumb networks based on the essentials of the all-optical model of broadcast and select--of customers seeking wavelengths or frequencies rather than switching circuits. Cable companies already provide all the programs to all the terminals and allow them to tune in to the desired messages. But the cable industry cannot become a full-service supplier of telecommunications unless the regulators give up their ridiculous two-wire dream in which everyone competes with cable and no one makes any money. Cash-poor and bandwidth-rich, cable companies need to collaborate with telcos--which are cash-rich and bandwidth-poor--in a joint effort to create broadband systems in their own regions. In all eras, companies tend to prevail by maximizing the use of the cheapest resources. In the age of the fibersphere, they will use the huge intrinsic bandwidth of fiber, all 25,000 gigahertz or more, to simplify everything else. This means replacing nearly all the hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of switches, bridges, routers, converters, codecs, compressors, error correctors, and other devices, together with the trillions of lines of software code, that pervade the intelligent switching fabric of both telephone and computer networks. The makers of all this equipment will resist mightily. But there is no chance that the old regime can prevail by fighting cheap and simple optics with costly and complex electronics and software. The all-optical network will triumph for the same reason that the integrated circuit triumphed: It is incomparably cheaper than the competition. Today, measured by the admittedly rough metric of mips per dollar, a personal computer is more than 2,000 times more cost-effective than a mainframe. Within 10 years, the all-optical network will be thousands of times more cost-effective than electronic networks. Just as the electron rules in computers, the photon will rule the waves of communication. I know people would not write it..But worth a try:)
