Why would people blame A-Rod?
The guy is going after money like any professional player would. If I were in his shoesI would do the same thing. I work in IT. If I have an offer from another company that will pay more money and a career that looks far more promising that my current employer I won't hesitate to jump ship. You people must be realy naive if they believed in the whole "I want to win" made-for-TV cliches that sports stars have made for years. It is the baseball club owners who should be blamed for inflating the market by paying outrageous amounts of money to players who do not deliver consistently.

- I have yet to see a player like A-Rod in baseball who is so greedy and yet so undeserving... Yes he does deserve the MVP again this year because without him, the Yanks wouldn't have made the playoffs... BUT He can't even hit the broadside of a barn when it comes to crunch time... 0-18 in his last 18 ABs in the playoffs with RISP(runners in scoring position)... Yeah he really delivers... He doesn't have another offer(if he does, that's called tampering)... a little different than the real world...
- Somehow I think the Yankee fans that are getting down on him now are the same Yankee fans that were booing him for the last 3 years. There is a lot of sentiment going around that, because he makes a "ton" of money, he is to be hated. A bit of envy really. Personally, as a Yankee fan, I don't hate him for leaving and I don't blame him for the state the Yankees have been in the last few years. I am disappointed that it turned out this way, but I don't hate him. The fact that Lou Pinella likes him is enough to prove to me that he is an OK guy.
- Agree 100%. I don't understand what the big deal is especially with yankees fans. Correct me if I'm wrong but they hated the guy. He choked in post season right?! Then why are you upset with him leaving?
- I think people are blaming ARod for the timing of the announcment. No one begrudges him for getting what he can. But he showed disrespect for his colleagues by making, or having his agent make the announcement during the WS. Last night should have been all about the BoSox winning and the incredible out-of-nowhere finish for the Rockies. Instead ARod had to have his name thrown about.
- What happens when A-Rod signs for LESS money? He is not being greedy. He does not like playing in New York. He wants to go elsewhere. It is not about the money, it is about playing where you want to.
- im a big yankee fan, but i cant blame a-rod for leaving. he was treated like crap by the fans and the media he won 2 mvps in 4 years for the yankees and the fans and media still werent satisfied. he gets blamed for the failures in the last 4 post seasons even though there were 24 other guys on the team. if i were him id leave too. he dosnt have to put up with that crap. as a yankee fan it really dissapoints me because there are a lot of great players who will never play for new york because of the fans and the media. thanks for the great years A-rod. good luck.
- If he comes to Boston I'm gonna become a Yankee fan.
- I guess it's a WE versus HIM mentality as to whether an owner is crazy enough to pay $30M a year for the next 13 years to satisfy his greed. Those of us that would not see a million dollars, collectively throughout our lifetime, cannot grasp the need. How much is enough? You can't take it with you. If you're smart, just one installment of $30 million can last several lifetimes. What happened to the 8 installments of $25.2M from his last contract? Did he pull a Mike Tyson and blow it all on Toronto hookers? This is where the anger comes from. People pour their hearts and hard-earned dollars to support a team and their players, only to be treated in such a way that they feel dirty and used. The thing is, we'll all just dust ourselves off and walk right back up to the ticket office again and start all over!
- Bulls$#! walks....money talks!...who can blame him except us Yankee fans...other then that, you can't fault the guy..remember also that when he took the deal with the Rangers..correct me but wasn't the Indians in the running also with similar $$....he took the deal with the Rangers because Texas does not have "state income taxes"....Ohio or whatever team it was did ...so this deal was better for A-Rod's pocket.....when he went to the Yankees, all of this changed for NY does have it.... he was really making less money by going to NY or netting less money, I should say....so now he has to look at making it up and will with a 30+ million contract..."I want to win" is still somewhat important and not a better place then NY Yankees to do it at....maybe at the end it will come back around to the Yankees...doubtful, but it could still happen...just curious, what is the difference between a $25million and 30 million????...one more mistress???
- what team is going to pay him 150 million dollars??? Only a few selected teams can afford that, but then they would have to release some players.... Because of A-Rod baseball should institute a salary cap. People like Arod are making WAY too much money "playing" a sport. He should come and actually do an honest day work and make 10 .00 an hour and see what it is like for normal people to pay to see his prolific ass
- I don't blame Payrod exclusively. I think the fault also lies with ownership. As someone else asked in another post, what if no one offered him a contract. People already responded that would not happen. That is correct and the reason it is correct is that some owner will offer $150 mil, crazy as it is. And Cleveland never, to my knowledge, went after Payrod. It would have bankrupted the entire franchise.
