- Hi As an accountant you know the value you can add that a software package cannot. The same is true for an effective marketing plan. A standard free template off the net will not take into account the geography, your client base, sector bias etc... In fact a template may indeed lead you to look at the wrong things. For a sample plan see here ( http://factiva.com/infopro/resources/Unit3Sample.doc or http://sbinformation.about.com/od/marketplansample/Marketing_Plan_Samples_Resources.htm ) The best thing you can do is to conduct a PEST or PESTLE analysis (see below) and use these results to complete a SWOT. This will give you some sensible data to work with. Using a Holistic Business Diagnostic (for example: http://www.rapidbi.com/bir ) will help ensure that your business is 'fit enough' to deliver the marketing and business plans you have developed. Often a major mistake business owners make is to develop the marketing plan in isolation from the business plan, so that one does not support the other. When you have developed the plan - check your Key Performance Indicators and Critical Success Factors CSF's to make sure that: a) you can measure and monitor them at least monthly b) they will ensure your plans are on track c) you have a contingency plan if these indicators go 'off track' Good luck
