Lucid, a legal absinthe liquor, is to hit the market in June. Anybody know an online retailer?

Absinthe has been banned in the USA for a century, despite the original accusations that it was hallucinatory and caused insanity having been debunked. Lucid, from Viridian Spirits, is to be the first legal version, and hit the market in June 2007. I would like to buy some either in New Orleans or Houston, or buy it online if possible Anybody know where? For those of you who are under the misconception that I am seeking it for hallucinatory reasons...if that was the case, the suspected chemical is available in other products at much higher concentrations. I want it for one very simple reason...to recreate some very old recipes, and since nothing supposedly tastes identical to the original, then the original is necessary...at least once. check out absinthe in wikipedia, it was NOT an opium issue with this liquor, but rather the use of the wormwood. To make it legal, the levels of thujone had to be much lower than the original, but thujone is also present in many other legal for human consumption substances at levels higher than even the historical absinthe contained....as long as it is NOT derived from the artemisia family.

1. first of all absinthe reportedly tatsed like acid and the only reason people drank it was for its effects. Secondly how would anyone disprove what the efffects were? thirdly if the effects were as they have been believed to be the new Lucid will obviously not do that. and fourth if it really is coming out it will probably be everywhere!
2. Gia, you are correct that absinthe (made from wormwood) was banned, but it was actually banned worldwide because it is a derivative of opium. It is not just the USA that banned it. That being said, I'm wondering how they can market absinthe now without the connection to opium and/or poppies. Unless, of course, they make it without that kind of base. I live in Houston too, and I'd like to see if Spec's Wholesalers will carry it too. FYI - a good substitute for absinthe is ouzo or pernod. I found this out when I found a 50-year-old recipe for Oysters Rockefeller - the original recipe from Antoine's called for absinthe. The cooks ended up using ouzo or pernod as a legitimate substitute.
3. If you are into cocktails you might consider checking out Tales of the Cocktail in N.O. Which will have a section on absinthe, Lucid might possibly be there (and other brands if the hosts bring them along). The release is said to be relatively small (compared to other liquor releases) and thus limited to mainly select NYC stores for now. Although Lucid has said they will offer online sales on their site. Where do people get their info? For the lurkers, It's not opium, it wont rot anything, it doesn't taste like acid. Yes Lucid is a real absinthe.

6. It's funny that people who've never even tried absinthe are somehow "experts" on how bad it tastes or its effect on the drinker. I've had it. It's very strong and burns like crazy, but it doesn't cause hallucinations and doesn't taste horrible. According to the Lucid website (drinklucid.com) there aren't any present plans to sell online, but they are hoping to secure an online retailer sometime in the summer. 7. This is funny. I can't believe people are bashing you for this question. Absinthe is awesome. It is legal across the sea, and I drank some in Amsterdam. I have drank the "fake" stuff too, and it only tastes a tad different. It tastes like licorice and comes 110-120 proof. I would like to order some too. Just google it and hopefully some distributor will pick it up near your area. Not opium, Wormwood, and it is not banned worldwide. I am surprised of the misinformed here. It doesn't cause hallucinations unless you drink LOTS of it. Stay out of the beer, wine, and spirits section if you can't answer this type of quesiton! Let me know if you find any online!
8. As mentioned on the website, there are no plans to sell online...YET. Given this, you may as well order imported absinthe online as easy as it is. Lucid is made by Ted Broulx, the guy behind the Jade line of absinthes made at the Combier distillery in France. Lucid is actually made in the traditional way. Contrary to current myth, the level of thujone in properly distilled absinthe is minimal. According to Lucid's website, the level is below US limits and thus is not illegal. In fact, most "absinthes" that claim absurdly high amounts of thujone not only fail to have a superior "effect," but taste like liquorice covered monkey butt.
