how do i start an online business?

im thinking of starting an online business retailing headphones. i know how to get the stock but im at the moment clueless as to how to set up a website, market it etc. what costs are there, and legal issues. this is just a one man operation, so shouldnt need to be a registered company. thanks chris

1. you could just do it off ebay, register as a company do the same for paypal and just create listings, it is very simple but i doubt the income from it can replace your current job, it should really be a side extra, anyway wish you the best of luck, email me if you want any help with ebay Yeah if you are doing it as a side part then u will be able to get away with it but remember paypal only allows you to received £250 a month until you have to become a preimum user so they charge you more.
2. You could start by using eBay. Records should be kept for tax purposes and make sure that you record all of your expenses. Websites can come later. How are you going to undercut the competition bearing in mind that no one will have heard of you before?
3. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE EBAY. Isn't it a lot better if you have your OWN website and people buy it off of that. What ebay does is raise the fees every day. They have so much stupid rules that I bet you if you register you will get kicked off of there in less than a month. It happened to me :( You work so hard setting up your store...then the next day they delete all that and kick you off. Then they charge you fees because they said you violated something and didn't even tell me what i violated! Anyways, first off you should find a good host. Don't use yahoo, godaddy, tripod, or freewebs. They are the worst hosts. Try something like www.hostmonster.com or www.lunarpages.com. It's only about $80.00 a year and they have 24/7 support too! A free domain name is also included. Theres lots of free site builders out there too. Try to google them, hostmonter even has one included too! I use hostmonter so... Good Luck!
