What do you think I can do?

how skillfull can I be considered? I am speaking with the honest truth and I hope no one will feel I am bragging. I am honestly not, I know household plumbering where I can change all of the household's taps and pipes. I also know how to repair air conditioners. I also know brasing and arc welding. I also know how to repair cars and trucks. I also know how to assemble PCs and create computer networks. But, as of now, I STILL CAN'T FIND A SUITABLE JOB! I have been out of my previous job for 3 months and nobody is willing to employ me. The only offer I got was a cleaner in a shopping complex last week which offered only one third the salary! It has also become an embrassement to be solely dependent on my gf. Are all these skills useful for the job market or do I need something more?

  1. Have you applied at every plumbing company and the maintenance department of every city, county and large company in your area?
  2. Are you licensed to do this work? People will not hire you unless you have a license. Go to a trade school and take care of it. The skills you have are very much in demand.
  3. Get out the phone book and call every company that applies to your skills. Ask them if they're hiring and if you can set up an interview with them that day. I did that one time, and it worked. Finding a job is so hard now-a-days! Good luck! And don't worry too much about your gf...I'm sure she knows how hard you're trying.
  4. How about starting your own handyman business? There things that need done around the house that some homeowners are unable to do, but they are too small to call a contractor for. Why not a do-it-all handyman? All the little things that are too much for a contractor. Or a mobile oil change service? This was offered in my area at one time. Instead of taking my car to the mechanic, the mechanic came to my home. I loved it. Just some thoughts.
  5. Don't take this offensivly, but maybe you are shooting to high? Do you just have the knowlage of all this or do you have degree's and job experiance to back you up? I say that because more jobs then none all want degree's or experiance. I know it's hard to get your foot in the door, my husband is strugling with the same things. He knows so much, but because he doesn't have the job experiance, he is having a hard time. Maybe try your references. Sometimes all you need is a good reference to get your foot in the door. It's sometimes hard to ask people, but if it's your future then maybe that might be something they can help you out with. Try calling around, maybe see if you can get an apprentiship, or an internship. Or try at smaller companies. Is your gf's job something that she needs to stay at for awhile? Maybe try looking at different areas. If you aren't having any luck there, maybe a city away, or state away might have more to offer. That would be the last resort if your stable everywhere else though. Maybe if your last job experiance was good they can help recomend you to another job. Or if your in school go to talk to some of the office people, they can help you find the person you need to talk to that can help you get a job in the field your looking for. About your gf, don't feel embarrassed, we all have troubles sometimes getting started, just make sure to do extra help around the house ;) Good luck!
  6. It sounds as though you ought to have a go at being self-employed. I should choose one of your skills, maybe the plumbing and get some cheap flyers printed - on the computer would be fine and then send them out all over the place. In the meantime you could also have a look at the Kleeneze opportunity which can make money for you almost immediately. It may not be what you want to do full time but for now it could fill a gap until you have some customers up and running and even then you can work the two ideas side by side, you'll always make money with Kleeneze if you put out enough catalogues. Have a look at www.minted4life.com, I've not looked back, it's an income source that fits around any other jobs or committments. If you want to get in touch for some more info, please reply to this and I'll send you some info in the post. Regards Hazel
