I am looking to make some money on the side, and a friend suggested network marketing?

I never heard of this opportunity before. My friend told me I need to be aware though, there are a lot of scams with network marketing. How anyone know of legit N.M. opportunities out there? How can I learn more about this opportunity from legit sites? Thanks in advance
