What intelligent online textbooks exist? Is there a need for new developments like this in education?

What digital resources are currently used in the textbook marketplace? How are these used and do they meet the needs? The most intelligent book on-line is this one (available for FREE download): http://www.the-alternative.org.uk Most books don't meet needs inasmuch as they do not provide an unbiased / independent view - most support the current system. There is a great need for inspiring educational material (for teachers and pupils / students). A significant shift towards digital would save trees and be green. The best way to market is via the internet if given a decent budget.
