Is this legal?

I found this employment ad in the newspaper, is it legal for them to specify a christian male for this job? Notice it says HE will. This is just the highlights of this ad. POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Strategic Outreach holds the primary responsibility for building relationships and securing speaking opportunities in the most desired markets, churches and high profile associations across the county. He will hold responsibility for meeting all assigned revenue targets for the operation. Please submit the following items for possible employment: Resume, cover letter, & Salvation testimony ATTRIBUTES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED: 1. Commitment to Christ Minimum of 2 years successful outside sales experience preferred Solid experience in and understanding of marketing Work experience within church or Christian business environments

  2. The he can be generic, I think the main issue is the christian requirement, which might not be kosher, but do you really want to work for these folks if you have a different belief? Heck, I'd consider it a fair warning. Good luck!

  4. i don't think its right and the newspapers are carefull of what to print so i would say it is, but i think its more of a discussion for the interview. but would'nt it be nice if everyone was, so it would'nt have to be asked. amen
  5. Sure, it is legal. They are not bound by any rules with this kind of a job. I saw an ad where you had to be a certain height because it was for a therapist for a handicapped child who is big and strong. Another one was some kind of camp for boys and they wanted a male counselor only. They make the rules. Discrimination is very specific to each job and each place of employment. In this case, though, the "he" may just be generic and it could be that they will hire a woman.
