Future of Software Professionals?

I'm planning on a carrier switch from Architecture to Computer Software....What are the top recommended fields to look(or not look) into,considering todays market. Any Suggestions?? Thanks,

1. You didn't mention why you're switching careers, and that might make a difference in your search for a suitable computer-related career. There are lots of places to work in IT. There are hard-core technology jobs like operating system design (think Windows Vista or Linux), but there are also business applications to design, write and support, networks to design and support, database design and administration and web design, software quality assurance and testing, to name a few. One of the biggest growth areas right now: IT security. Take a look at jobs posted on Yahoo to get a feel for what's out there. Best of luck to you!
