How to be a successful affiliate?

Hi guys, I am an affiliate, using search engines for advertising on behalf of my merchants, online, targeting USA since two years with negligible success. Can anyone who has achieved a success in online affiliate marketing, give me good tips? No ads please, spam will be reported, best answer will be voted.

I was new to affiliate marketing myself, but the company I am with basically trains me on how it is professionally done. What you really need to do is get educated. I could recommend a few sources but you would probably think it is spam.
