Why do politicians get away with stealing while America can see them do it?
Discloses $2 million in business arrangements The Washington Times by Jim McElhatton Democratic vice-presidential candidate Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. has paid more than $2 million in campaign cash to his family members, their businesses and employers over the years, a practice that watchdogs criticize as rife with potential conflicts of interest. The money largely flowed from the coffers of Mr. Biden’s failed presidential campaign during the past two years to a company that employs his sister and longtime campaign manager, Valerie Biden Owens, according to campaign disclosure filings. The senator from Delaware also directed campaign legal work to a Washington lobbying and law firm founded by his son R. Hunter Biden, the disclosures show. Putting family members and their companies on the political payroll is legal if the work is legitimate and charged at market rates, according to the Federal Election Commission. Still, public watchdog groups have long criticized such arrangements. “Even though legal within restraints, it’s not something I view as completely ethical,” said Craig Holman, legislative director for Public Citizen, a campaign finance watchdog organization. “Any candidate ought to shy away from that.” Aides to Mr. Biden said all of the payments he has made to family members or their employers were aboveboard.

- i don't think the americans pay enough attention to care.
- Because they are the government and what they say goes, until the people rise up against them.
- every nation is ruled as it deserves. (ataturk)
- Because America is to lazy or they don't care enough to do anything about it, and because this guys are to powerfull, by their own or they got friends that have friends that are friends of people that control the goverment.
- 1. the money went to family is is not considered anything illegal there are set limits to campaign funds but when it's your own money it doesn't matter they also know how to do it legally or make it look legal, we as citizens do the same thing it just doesn't show in the media, have you ever lied a little on your tax return, I bet you have that illegal
- Well, it's all technically legal...so there's nothing you can say about it. If enough people cared then I'm sure it could be made illegal, but the apathetic state of this country is basically the cause for all of the country's problems.
- because unlike many countries in the world, americans are seemingly spineless when it comes to dealing with its politicians. alot of governments in different places fear the people, because when something happens the people rise up, stand together and riot. you dont see that kind of strength in the american peoples, they look at everything from an every man for himself point of view, which unfortunately instills no fear in anyone and will allow all of the corruption to continue
- Things like that have been going on from the dawn of civilisation & will continue to go on because they can get away with it & we the voters let them. Australia - john howard (aussie prime minister) got a large donation from" the brethren" (a weird religious cult) that wasn't disclosed till after the last election. nothing happened to john howard (he lost the election). If he had got back in, what influence would "the brethren" have had with john howard ?????????????
