Job Market so bad?

We all know that the job market is pathetic (unless you have the privilege) to live in a huge city such as: New York, Dallas, Fort Worth, Michigan, San Deigo, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Milwaukee, Miami, Spokane, Las Vegas etc... Why are not employers seeking people to work for them part-time if the job market is so bad? I look online for jobs (office jobs folks) and all I see are full-time positions. Do these employers actually believe that everyone looking for a job is either 1. has the privilege to have a car of their own or 2. WANTS to work full-time. Where is the part-time job market for office jobs? Where are those companies that hire new graduates on a internship basis for 15-20 hours per week? (Oh, let me guess. Those positions are not in Perris California. At least, not yet, am I right?) I'm already a senior at Univeristy of Redlands School of Business-thank you though. See, I AM getting my "education" as many of you have stated.

  1. Sadly it falls under the employer saying.. Its not their problem. I applyed at the RC Hobby shop over off Alessandro in the new construction buildings and the guy asked me if I had kids.. and I said Yes.. I have three... and he told me That He wasn't going to let an "apron string" bring his buisness down and he cut me off in the middle of the interview and just walked away. We are walking backwards in our times..woman can't get abreak anymore let alone a woman who has kids. I feel your pain!
  2. Check Craigslist. They have a part under the jobs that lists just part time jobs. Its hard right now...I live in San Diego...trust me, its still hard to find a job. Regardless how big or small your city is. Best of luck!
  3. If you're looking for a part job job, you have to actually search for it. The best way to do it, do a search on Google for part time jobs and get specific on what you want. Start taking a look at the larger career boards that will allow you to use part time as one of the search options. I believe Monster is one of them and Careerbuilder is another. CL is good for some things but I don't know if I could actually trust them for finding jobs. I haven't seen anything on there that's impressive to me. To answer your question about the job market being so bad, it's gone down due to the economy. Employers need to watch their own backs and protect their assets. They won't hire part time work because that isn't cost effective. It is cheaper to hire someone full time that can actually perform the job and work 40 hours a week (or more) depending on what the job is. Some jobs require a degree or the knowledge of knowing software be looked at for an interview. No skills, no interview. Businesses have the right to do that because they are hiring and paying you. It is rare to find part time positions for office work. The best thing I can suggest is to consider looking for something else. If you're wanting an internship, you need to be in college and prove it to your employer. They will check your credentials.
  4. As an employer, ones concern is to fill a position with the best possible person to do the job. The employer is not concerned with whether or not you have a car, don't want to work full time. They are concerned with getting the position filled at their company and getting the job done so they can stay in business, expand and grow and hopefully create more jobs for more people. The mistake many applicants make is to bring their personnel issues to the interview. Such as, "I don't have reliable transportation, child care, and am only willing to work a mere 15 hours a week". This not only limits your value to the employer, it reduces the possibility that you will be able to afford a car or relocation to a larger city. There is a saying that "If you what to get what you have always gotten, then do what you have always done". It seems what you have always done has not gotten you what you want. Try a new view on what you are willing to do, to get the things you want in your life. Be willing to learn new skills, set up some transportation options. Consider working enough hours to provide yourself with enough income to make some changes such as more education or that move to another city. ( And by the way, there are several part time jobs listed less than 6 miles from Perris, CA in Sun City, and they require no special skills)
