What are the best ways to advertise online, besides the normal search engines, Google, Yahoo, etc.?

I am starting a new business and want to know your opinion on what works. I see a lot of different companies offering the best service and I want to know which are the best. Also, do things like email marketing, newspapers, banners, etc work? My business will be an online investment company. Thanks!!
