How do I start up a promotional marketing company?

I am 23, attending business school and a former promotional model. I would like to know the steps to take in establishing my own company. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated!

1. I'd strongly recommend using your local government website to help you build a business plan. Going through the process of business planning will help you understand the steps needed to startup a business. So check out www.sba.gov if in the U.S. or in Canada, the regional British Columbia site is very good: www.smallbusinessbc.ca. Once you've completed your business plan, you will have a much clearer idea of whether or not there is a good business rationale to move forward.
2. well, it usually starts with an idea... and depending on that idea, there are a number of ways to go about starting it up. If your business is online, you need to first set up all the technical stuff like buying a domain and getting tracking on it. Then, you have to think about branding and creating a buzz to get people to the website. lately i have been seeing a lot of various ways to get this traffic. i actually just ran into this online contest that a company started. you just submit a contest idea and if it wins the company will manage the contest for free. here is the link if you think it would help your company: http://contestconcept.com/
