How much does SEO cost for a small to medium sized business?
I have a business idea to set up an online marketing/SEO company in Melbourne. I wanted to get some feedback more along the technical side of things. The idea is for me to do the business development and then outsource or contract the actual SEO to someone else. I'm trying to work out if the idea would work. I know it differs between industries, but lets say I had $200-$300 AUD per month for a freelancer or contractor to look after the SEO for clients, what kind of measurable results could they expect to see?

- Well, it is actually not a bad budget. Your customers can expect their website listed in Search engines in few days. They can expect first traffic flow in 2-3 weeks. See if they are ready to provide you with articles and videos and press releases related to their business, this will increase the chances for your success promoting their website and easy the work for you as you will not need to outsource to writers and content creators, and it will multiply the success rate, so this is probably what you should start the negotiation with your clients about, the content will be the key, and if they will give you this content on a regular basis, you are on a safe path. A good SEO company will use this info you provide them with and bring great results in terms of traffic in just few weeks, I actually do a lot of SEO and know that when you have a lot of unique content you are more then a half way to success. One important thing for you is never to promise google positions, as they can not be predicted and can not be accurate, however you can always guarantee targeted traffic, from google and other search engines, this traffic will be achieved by content distribution and quality content on the website, the backlinks must contain keyword phrase, look for long tail keyword phrases at the beginning and then proceed to the rest. If you are serious about this business, you must try doing SEO yourself, this way you will know what to ask from the guys you outsource too, in order to ask something from them you must know what you ask, also this way you will be able to work with different freelancers and not deal with one company which usually charge you about 40% more then if you would work directly with a freelancer. I would also recommend you to focus on building your own websites and promoting them rather then offer this service, as if you promote your own websites it is a long term income which in many cases doesn't involve customers service of any type, aka affiliate marketing, and placing PPC ads (adsense) on your website. It is all about content nowadays in SEO, and of course you must know the basics and then when you have the plan and too lazy to execute or simply do not have time for it or can spend this time on more important things that bring more income, then start outsourcing, with a $200-$300 a month budget for outsourcing, you can have your own online empire in about an year and quit your job, but this is only in case you are persistent and ready to work hard and know what you do. Do not read tons of ebooks, find good forums, and see what they recommend then read and execute, this is the main problem with making money online, people learn and learn and learn and never execute and then complain and then give up. I do SEO myself for my websites, for 5 years now and it is not easy at all and it takes learning new things all the time, but once you know the system and have your methods and have the budget to outsource and found some good employees to outsource to you are on a sure path to become rich, you will just rinse and repeat. Hope this helps.
- here is the truth , read the book SEO for dummies , get your site indexed by goodgle , and read the tips and tricks availiable , and pay for adwords opposed to paying someone to direct traffic to your site . they will take there cut , and at the end of it you wont really see much of a difference unless you pay for advertising through google who own and maintain the biggest internet form and exposure. .. additionally I read the person before me , he is absolutly right in every way , he is the best answer , and covered everything you need to know. I have four large websites maintained and run by me , and the only way you can really succeed is to limit what input third parties are able to be involved with with information you what to be party to and have access to , you are the best person to do this if you have the skills.
