Women are they oppressed or free?

There is a growing veiw that society is being subliminally conditioned to assume that Muslim women are oppressed and non muslim women are enjoying the fruits of freedom - can this be so.I live in the west and women have become the greatest marketing tool selling everything from toothbrushes, choclate, alcohol, cars, games and anything you can think, can you think of the harm this type of exposure can cause (they will be the mother's of the next genartions) and we promote them in a visual form of pornagraphy. your thoughts please!

  1. Its controversial, that it is. But when it comes down to it.. its like everything else in life. Its a box of chocolates. You never know what youre gonna get =). Some western women wanna show off their breasts... others wanna raise orphans. It all comes down to how they really are on the inside.
  2. Your question is confused; first off nobody is being "subliminally conditioned", ok? What is it? (Hint): the answer is there is no such thing as "subliminal conditioning": "In the annals of advertising few strategies are more notorious than subliminal persuasion. If you asked your average Joe to name the advertising practices he objected to, somewhere after spam and before tampon commercials he'd probably mention subliminals. The public uproar over subliminals took place over two key periods. The first, in the late 1950s, focused on James Vicary's claims that he had inserted split-second, invisible ad messages into movies. In the 1970s, Wilson Bryan Key rekindled the frenzy with his book Subliminal Seduction, which purported to reveal that ads for liquor and other everyday products were riddled with hidden skulls and humping donkeys. Experts have long since debunked the subliminal hoaxes, and many people with more than a passing knowledge of advertising know not to take this nonsense seriously...". You state ",can you think of the harm this type of exposure can cause (they will be the mother's of the next genartions) and we promote them in a visual form of pornagraphy." Women in chocolate adverts are 'pornographic'??? Please show examples of pornographic Mars bars commericals. Your argument makes no sense at all.
  3. I disagree that society is being subliminally conditioned to assume that Muslim women are oppressed. The oppression is there for all to see. It is not hidden. Having said that, I am sure there are a minority of women who actully choose submission and oppression albeit for religious reasons or just a personal preference. Where's the problem? It is within ones own mind and conscience. Unfortunately, there always has been and always will be pornography of both men and women. I doubt that these same men and women would expose any offspring that they might have to their chosen lifestyles but would protect them from it. Who knows? It is speculation and hypothesis. Back to oppression - who's responsibility is it to break and/or expose the oppression of women - ANY women, not just Moslem women? Surely the solution lies in educating the oppressor. Then again, if we are speaking of fanatical 'religion", no amount of education will penetrate the solid walls of religion that have been taught to oppressor and oppressee since birth. So, we're at a stalmate. Let us hope then that all who are oppressed will stand up and fight for their rights as human beings and let us hope that there are "free" souls available to assist them.
  4. in Western "civilization", women are made objects in movies, in adverts, in papers. "sex sells" is the slogan of all marketing people. on the other hand, most women in Western countries are free to do what they like, to wear what they want, to marry who they love. I'm not stating that all Muslim families oppress their wifes or daughters, because I know Muslim women that are as free as non-Muslim, and I know some Muslim women that are strictly under their family's controll. women in general are discriminated against in some fields - so they earn less money in some jobs, or are not considered for some jobs. society wants them to stay home and raise kids. and this does not depend on country or religion. you should worry about that far more than about religious things.
  5. Women have been able to vote and get equal pay for many years now so yes we are free.
