Do I need to provide fresh contant to get higher page renking?

I have made a website that is directory based providing all bloging sites for small business blog. So my website has many cotegory for small business like internet marketing, home based job, affiliate marketing etc. and it has about 500 bloging sites indexed in different cotegories. Now I need to know that I have to update my website regularly to get higher page rank, if it is then how often. People with more than 70% IQ knoweledge need answer this question. Thanks

2. Yeah I also tried once to get high rankin..... Not only fresh content accounts my buddy there so many factors that affect the rankin of ur site...But it also needed for High rankin For example: outlink-the site or blogs u refering from ur site inlink -the site or blogs tat others refer to u how often people visit ur site through the search engine(in which u want to get high rank) No of valid hyperlinks u have sitemap-not the one for users, but for the SE crawler.....usually in the XML format U should hv fresh content...needs to be updated atleast once in a week n specify it in the sitemap(abv said) And finally no one knows how much we hv to concentrate on this..... generally concentrate equally on each things
3. yes, fresh content added to your site may bring more visitors as viewers want to see and read something new on any site. check any popular sites like yahoo. updating a normal site or a blog is necessary if you want a constant flow of visitors which will automatically help in increasing the page rank in search engines. so daily spend some time in updating your site.
