I plan to develop and market a user friendly calculator software for undergrads but I've no programming skills

Say I have to start from scratch, what programming languages should I learn? Thanks.

1. if u really wanna be a respectable programmer then don't learn Visual Basic i would recommend C# or Java
2. I would start with http://www.kidsprogramminglanguage.com/ . I know you are smart and probably think it's a waste of time, but it's a good way to get started. If you only want to target Windows users, then I would recommend C#.NET. Otherwise I would go with Java, but I like .NET a lot more. I once through of making a calculator software, but there is a LOT to a good calculator program if you want to make any money on it. It has to do a lot more than the windows powertoys calculator does for you to make money.
3. u can learn c++ or action script if ur using flashor java. Learn Java it is the worlds upcoming programming language.if u can the programming code u can search on google for free java coding for ur calculator and u can modify the code as u want
4. Well, I believe for fast development and shorten your learning cycle, Visual Basic.Net 2005 may be your choice. You could get a free copy of VB express, so it doesn't cost you. I believe you are a hoppist who trys to make some simple software for yourself. I am too. Thus, no point on wasting too much on time to learn programming instead of creating software. While VB could give us fun on coding, and nice interface (Windows XP looks-like). Thus I chose VB. VB, C# or even C++ now come quite close together and the application written in these language could communicate to each others, thus don't worry you wasted your coding in VB after switching to C++. Having fun in coding.
5. don't get into .NET undergrads mostly work on unix/linux systems. IMO you should use either java or c/c++
