Is shorting in the market legal? Isn't it hurting our country's economy? What can be done about it?
A friend in the bond business just told me about the concept of shorting, betting on who will drop. Making money when stocks and businesses are hurting. Sounds like gambling. If it is hurting the strength of our economy and country, can something be done about it? Even in a global economy? Thanks for your thoughts.

- Lol...well there's legit shorting and naked shorting. And right now the SEC is going full throttle against naked shorting but legitimate shorting can and will never be abolished.
- It does'nt take a rocket scientist to figure out thar right now shorting is the prudent thing to do. And as long as you are not using insider trading it can never be called illegal. The reason is that there is theoretically the same risk in shorting a stock as going long. You can lose just as much money. So, short away and make hay while you can!
- Per the Wall Street Journal tonight, the SEC is moving to ban all short-selling. At least temporarily.
