If you hate free markets why do you love government?

Whenever I ask liberals why they can't stand the idea of free markets they usual bring up all the evil profiteering companies that are just so.. soo.. evil. My question to you libs is this. You knock free markets for many reasons, not important to list them. But in building more government to protect us from the evils of free markets why won't all these evils you proclaim not manifest themselves in a far worse way.. behind the full force of government? Please.. explain.

  1. The "free market" is a myth...it doesn't really exist.
  2. People who think that because people are evil, they shouldn't be allowed to govern themselves, forget that the government is also made up of people - people who are able to govern others. If you can't trust the individual to govern himself, how can you trust him to govern others?
  3. You're going to hear crickets...
  4. Both business and government have the capacity to do bad things. The difference is you get to pick who is in charge of government.
  5. If people love free market, why do they complain about US flags made in China? If that was controlled, it wouldn't be free market.
  6. The history of the world has unanimously shown a one sided affair with "who is more evil". The number of premature deaths caused War, Famine and Retribution numbers in the hundreds of millions from governments in the USSR, Germany and China in the last 80 years alone. The amount of wealth aborted, destroyed or extracted without distirbutive justice by incompetent and evil governments in the same time is probably 25X the current "bailouts" required by Companies.
  7. Free market is a great thing but there has to be some regulation when it affects the necessities of life. Doesn't anyone realize that the effects of the fuel gouging started this economic downturn? And it is still happening. Oil prices are low and fuel is going up. Why? Because refineries are cutting back production. Why can't corporations make a little less profit to help the economy? How can it be a free market when you allow monopolies to to manipulate prices?
  8. I'm liberal and I kind of like free markets. Here in New York City there are thousands of small businesses everywhere, and my family had a chain of retail stores. However, there are certain things in the "liberal" program that I want. These include: 1. Some kind of a national health plan. This way, small business owners wouldn't have to buy health insurance for their employees... Better for the economy!! 2. More government money going to schools and universities. We need to fund all kinds of science research. 3. Better international policy. This is not a "liberal vs. conservative" issue, but I do feel that Pres. Obama will be better internationally. Bush was terrible. 4. Less taxes for poor people, and more taxes for rich people. Like it or not, somebody has to pay taxes, to pay for things like the army! It's O.K. to tax the super-rich a bit more. 5. Social security is a good program. People will be more creative and participate in the market MORE, if they know they have a back-up. 6. I don't "love" government. I am afraid of government. However, I do want the government to do certain things.
