The owner of a private company I work for is requiring future employees to sign up with a MLM company. Legal?
He's requiring that all future employees sign up with MonaVie, which is a pyramid scheme. Is this even legal, and what can I do to stop this? Ok... so MonaVie may not be "officially" a pyramid scheme, but that's how I describe it: Like any pyramid scheme, the people on the bottom lose money, and only the top small percentage make any money.

- No -- that type of requirement cannot be enforced. He can suggest it, but not enforce it. I would be very curious to see what responses you would get to this question if posed in the the "Law and Ethics" category!
- I'm not sure of the legalities of all that. It does sound fishy, and he shouldn't enforce signing up with an MLM company. But pyramids are not illegal. Most companies are pyramids. All it is is someone working for someone who gets paid more money than they do. What job isn't like that? Bosses get paid more than their employees. That's a pyramid.
- Tracy is right but the pressue a new employee feels means that he'll get away with it.
- Hey Phil, I love Tracy’s answer... Do NOT let this go on. This is Not the true essence of MLM or Network Marketing. This is a classic example of how the MLM industry gets a bad name. Please... don't let him get away with this. IS IT LEGAL? I believe the question you are truly asking is - Is black mail legal? This is the real question, isn't it. Good luck mate :)
