What are the secrets to building a successful network marketing (MLM) business?

I am new to network marketing. The company I'm with is well established and on the NYSE. I just figured I would reach out to you all and see if someone could give me any tips. I would love to hear your story.

1. Be careful. You will see a lot of advertisements about easy turn-key ways to get rich in MLM. I have made a full-time income in MLM for over a decade and can tell you that there is no secret and there is no easy way. You must treat it like a real business and work very, very hard. Even though there are ways to leverage your business through the Internet and other technologies that do make it easier than it used to be, ultimately it is still a relationship business and you must get to know your customers and distributors. Also it's a numbers game. Most people simply don't contact enough people to be successful. Finally you must develop some business and people skills. If you already have those, then you have a head start. Bottom line - there is no secret. It just takes a lot of hard work, going through big numbers, and building sincere relationships.
2. There is not secret. It's a numbers game. Expose as many people as possible. All of the NYSE MLM companies I know of have good training programs and systems in place. Plug in to those trainings and the system. Those and your upline will will help you to build a successul business. Don't be distracted by all the sites that claim to have a magic formula.
3. Elizabeth, You're about to discover just how may 'experts' there are on network marketing. Some of the advice you've already been given is sound. Some of it not so sound. I do my 90% of my business online. I simply don't have time to wade through hundreds of people that are not interested in what I offer to find one or 2. That's a game no one can win...
