Why is it legal to market prescription only drugs directly to consumers on television?

I know it should be legal I suppose, but would you have ads on television for Oxycontin, or Vicodin, or Percocet?

1. Republicans don't believe in regulating business.
2. prescription-only drugs can only be obtained via prescription which means you had to see a doctor which means the marketing was only indirect.
3. those "ads" are informational and providing information about medications that might be helpful or might help point out illnesses. The person would have to go to doctor to get prescription in order to get the actual medications. There is no way they can send it to the person without a prescription from doctor. So isn't marketing prescriptions but is rather educating public so they go to doctor and ask if it will help them. That is argument.
