Why do some Americans so vehemently oppose health care reform?
This interests me, private health care is surely a prime example of free-market failure. Most Western societies have adopted universal health care, and when around 50m of your own citizens fall through the net, shouldn't this be the duty of the government to step in with a solution? The US govt. spends more than the UK and France (in % of GDP) on private health care that doesn't reach 50m!? Not only this but insurance induced debt is the primary cause of bankrupcy. Why the resistance? Is it Obama's specific plan or resistance to what you perceive as 'un-American' Big Government?

- Mostly because it's bad for America. Remember, a majority of Americans approve of their health care. This is almost twice as many as approve of congress. Dems should take note of that. Here's a good one I was just about to post. Shows the insidious nature of Dem programs. You know, government that comes in and never leaves. Cheers!
- They don't oppose reform. They oppose paying for healthcare for everyone who isn't working, and for the healthcare of illegal immigrants.
- Obamacare isn't health reform. Smart Americans understand this and are completely against it. Now if he were to actually put something forward that actually reforms healthcare. I'm sure a majority would be for it.
- I think the main reason is that so many Americans don't believe the federal government can provide such a service without massive waste, miles of red tape, and absolutely certain insolvency resulting in ever higher taxes. Although I agree that we need to do something about health care costs, I still don't see how any of the proposals put forth so far are going to address it. That's the major problem that needs to be fixed. If costs are brought back to earth, more people could afford insurance without a government sponsored health plan.
- Sean's an idiot
- I pay 1650.00 a month for insurance. I know many Iranians who are millionaires who get our free state health care that went broke.I will protest any plan . A hospital down the street closed its delivery room because so many mexicans abused the system. They work but don't pay taxes. Cheryl
- I think there are bought or bribed people involved. And on top of YOur facts. In europe they have near 100% insured in the US, the have about 16% not insured. And I think in the US only 1% of the insured people receive the benefits which is included in every standard health insurance in europe.
