liberals is the "public option" trigger something other than a national takeover of health care?
Why does the government get to decide when the "trigger" has been met, allowing it to do something terrible to us? Either the government is better at providing goods and services or the free market is -- and I believe the historical record is clear on that. Why do liberals get to avoid having that argument simply by invoking "triggers"? Why not have a "trigger" allowing people to buy medical insurance on the free market when a trigger is met, such as consumers deciding their health insurance is too expensive? Or how about a trigger allowing us to buy health insurance from Utah-based insurers -- but only when triggered by our own states requiring all insurance companies to cover marriage counseling, drug rehab and shrinks? Thinking more broadly, how about triggers for paying taxes? Under my "public option" plan, citizens would not have to pay taxes until a trigger kicks in. For example, 95 percent of the Department of Education's output is useful, or -- in the spirit of compromise -- at least not actively pernicious. Also, I think we need triggers for taking over our neighbors' houses. If they don't keep up 95 percent of their lawn -- on the basis of our lawn commission's calculations -- we get to move in. As with Obama's public option trigger, we (in the role of "government") pay nothing. All expenses with the house would continue to be paid by the neighbor (playing "taxpayer"). To make our housing "public option" even more analogous to Obama's health care "public option," we'll have surly government employees bossing around the neighbors after we evict them and a Web site for people to report any negative comments the neighbors make about us. Another great trigger idea: We get to pull Keith Olbermann's hair to see if it's a toupee -- but only when triggered by his laughably claiming to have gone to an Ivy League university, rather than the bovine management school he actually attended.
Public Comments
- Majority of people support a public option, so whats the problem?
- Public Option and Public Restroom will have a lot in common.
- To solve this problem, we don’t need the government—we need more competition. IF you want more competition for cheaper prices, open the state boarders to all insurance companies. The very regulations that keep the companies within state borders, are the same regulations which caused the high prices and low competition! This will open dozens of choices for people. IF you ever read about economics 101, more competition means that we, the people, win in the end when prices lower and care gets better. Same with Cable companies and other companies—competition makes the best survive and makes us the people, open to better care and services. Opening the state borders will give the companies a larger base for customers, while it will give us more competition and choices. Secondly, to lower insurance prices, we should give tax CUTS to ONLY the companies which lower prices. Just take economics 101, the only real problem with the Free Market solution means NOT everyone will get coverage - but the options will increase tenfold and the prices will lower. Gallup poll says majority does NOT support it you stupid cunt Griterdone.
- How about since you Republicans don't like "government run health care" make sure when you turn 65 you don't accept Medicare??
- Good post. Obama and Barny Frank both in their own words have made it clear the public option is a trigger or Trojan horse to single payer national health care. Anyone who doubts this only need hear what they have said in their own words below. God bless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-bY92mcOdk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3BS4C9el98
- For the govt to take over health care would assume that as the private health care companies loose business to the govt option, they would not do anything to make their company more competitive. They spend 30% of their revenue on advertisement. They give their CEO's 15,000,000 dollars a year in bonus money. They charge $40 for an ace bandage. They will become more competitive. Your writings areunrealisticc.
- Not to get off subject of your question but have you noticed that since Obama has been elected how many business have become enemies of the State. The oil companies are evil, Wall Street is evil, the Banks and Bankers are evil, Wal-Mart is evil, the car companies are evil and now the insurance companies are evil. All these business are evil and must be taken over by the Government (Obama and the socialist Democrats in Congress.) Am I the only one that see's the confiscatory agenda of our government. Every month it is something else that Obama must take over.
- Yes. The government has no desire to take over healthcare and the continuous statement that it does is simply a scare tactic by people who don't want affordable health care for all.
