Why did the US military exile the duly elected Haitian President Aristide, and why does the world allow it?

Under Aristide's leadership, his party implemented many major reforms. These included greatly increasing access to health care and education for the general population; increasing adult literacy and protections for those accused of crimes; improving training for judges, prohibiting human trafficking, disbanding the Haitian military (which had primarily been used against the Haitian people), establishing improved human rights and political freedoms; doubling the minimum wage; instituting land reform and assistance to small farmers;, providing boat construction training to fishermen; establishing a food distribution network to provide low cost food to the poor at below market prices, building low-cost housing, and attempting to reduce the level of government corruption. Washington has backed two coups and sent US troops back into Haiti twice in the past 20 years. Both coups were organized to overthrow Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the first Haitian president to be elected by popular vote and without Washington’s approval. Together, the coups of 1991 and 2004 claimed the lives of at least 13,000 Haitians. In the 2004 overthrow, Aristide was forcibly transported out of the country by US operatives, exiled to the Central African Republic. Needing them in Iraq, the US withdrew its troops in 2004. Despite Aristide’s capitulation to the demands of the International Monetary Fund and his willingness to compromise with Washington, the mass support he attracted with his anti-imperialist rhetoric made him detested by the ruling elites in both Washington and Port-au-Prince. On the orders of the Obama administration, he is barred from returning to Haiti and his political party, Fanmi Lavalas, remains effectively outlawed. Investigations into Aristede's removal have been blocked by the US and France. Why did the US military exile the duly elected Haitian President Aristide, and why does the world allow it? 4. Aristide was immensely popular with the people of Haiti. In order to discredit him, our CIA went on a large anti Aristide propaganda campaign. Within months of his taking office (the first time) he was accused of corruption, and drug trafficking When he was removed from office, it was met with little opposition. The U.S., acting in it's role as the mafia godfather, was not to be questioned. Aristide was very anti-global, and his compassion for the people of Haiti could not be tolerated.

I think when that happened about 99% of Americans had no clue -- our news did not cover it at all -- the only reason I knew was in SF the local radio was talking about it and how the coup was being supplied with weapons from US. Then they flew him out to Nigeria and our news covered it a little bit with only a little blurb about him being rescued or forcibly taken out, but left it kind of mystery. I don't really know what happened in 2004 Haiti; but if you said to someone here that the US took out the Haitian president in a cia covert action, most would look at you like you were a nut.
