Will conservatives abandon the free market?
What with protectionism, preventing foreign or domestic companies from operating within America's borders, laws preventing the free market to function (e.g. outlawing the sale of beneficial products, restricting the free flow of ideas and product), and spite (in some cases) of "elitist" economic ideas presented in Universities?

- They did that a long time ago when they decided to support corporate monopolies instead of enforcing the antitrust legislation.
- No they STILL haven't figured it out! I sadly see you haven't either. ##
- Our Judeo-Christian values specifically the teachings of Jesus have led us to the free market and she has done us well.
- Bush already did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oetNPJJcuAE FDR gave the same lip service when he was passing his social welfare programs.
- Possibly as more and more of them become victims of it. But I don't know what products are banned that are beneficial. You hear the disclaimers about all the side effects of certain drugs all the time. The FDA only has a skeleton staff. Don't know what ideas are being restricted other than a carburetor that can deliver 100 miles/gallon either.
- No system is al things to every one. No one ever claimed the free market system as a function of government. The government be it communist or democracy is subject to the whims of economic pressure What is amazing is that people think the government has control of the economic cycle?
- Well Broken Back Mountain, It's not really that free is it? If you smell protectionism, I would look towards the northeast where the leaders of state are you fool. If I'm not mistaken, they are mostly not conservative. Your so-called laws preventing the free market to function, I'm fairly certain that is an artifact of liberal freedoms (or is it constrictions by taxation). And the "elitist" economic ideas of which you speak in "Universities", given the absurdly liberal leanings of most if not all are liberal from the core, would you be hesitant to disagree? I would predict not. Which leaves me with but a single question, one that burns through my body and my soul, if liberals are in control, and they are, what the hell is the problem with solving the crises that have been set before them? Surely, if they are men/women of wealth and breeding (which they are) with the finest education(s) that money can buy, why can't they address our nation's problems? I think I smell a rat in power who hast overwhelmed himself, and his constituents with a little too much bull. But I digress, are liberals going to do anything when they have a full house with an ace kicker or crumble once the cheese has gone dry?
