Why does lots of things in republic Ireland feed off uk?

lots of things in Ireland are the same as England, for instance, nearly all the shops in the main cities in Ireland are all uk companies, like Argos b&q next etc. BskyB (sky) provide digital tv with only 5 Irish channels the other 900 odd stations being English. same newspapers, mobile network providers etc. there's even another 02 music venue in dublin. why doesn't Ireland have a more individual and independent Market?

  1. Ireland and England used to be one country. Also, they are in the region of Great Britain together! Basically, Ireland and England are sister countries that used to be one, split, but are still extremely similar.
  2. It's called history It's not just where you live though, the whole of Europe get more like that every year Big company's have the power and they use it
  3. Where did you get your information from.? Last time I looked at TV here in Ireland, I was looking at Setanta Sports. Not the Australian Rupurt Murdochs Sky. Why Do British use an Australian for all their Channels. Do you know the difference between England the province, and Britain the Country. Because of similarities in British and Irish lifestyles, we share a lot of things in common. And we welcome British Companies here, it creates jobs, and competitive prices, and builds our Economy. We also have many Companies from Germany, Lidl and Aldi, Harvey Norman from Australia, etc etc. So I guess you need to do more research.
  4. You mean companies like Primark? Oh yeah 0f course, they are Irish. Dunnes? Oh yeah, they are Irish too! Argos isn't orig English. Sky is owned by an Aussie.
  5. Yes and let's of course conveniently forget about Superquinn, Supervalu, Clery's, Xtravision, and the hundreds of other Irish companies. As for those 900 odd stations how many of them will ever be watched. As it stands I don't have Sky digital I have Chorus NTL and even with about 80 channels I probably only watch 10 and I dare say it is the same with those 900 shite stations that nobody even realise exist. We'll also forget about the Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Examiner etc. Oh and of course ignore Meteor. Ireland doesn't have a large enough market for it to be independent. Why are there so many foreign companies in the UK? It's because it promotes competitive trading.
  6. Well, the UK shops came in because there was the business there, that's why. It's more like they are feeding off us! You'd want to get out of the cities more and see what else is there. Seriously.
  7. Many are just names owned by multi national companies mate and although they may have a large presence in the UK, they are no more British companies than Irish. For example; O2 is owned by Telefonica from Spain. BSkyB is owned by NewsCorp founded and controlled by Australian Rupert Murdoch It's the same all over the place. Even when walking through Iceland's main shopping centre there are familiar high street names all over the place. When on the other side of the world in New Zealand I switched my mobile phone on and it locks onto Vodafone. That's the global world we live in today.
  8. It's called business.
  9. Simply ROI is part of Uk but not accepted yet by the political parties as they would lose power. The Good Friday agreement recognised this.
  10. There is not much english or british about england anymore, sky is owned by an ozzy, how many english pro-grammes are on sky1, and most of the channels on sky are american or are nearly all american oriented , so the question I ask to you is why does lots of things in the uk feed of the uk, by the way the 2nd biggest ethnic group in the u.s, are the irish and guess what the no.1 group is, The Germans , ha ha , that's it you get most of your influence form paddys and huns, how do ya feel now
