Is it possible to purchase software as used by mushygushy.com without having to depend on an online service?

Mushygushy.com was always a useful site for uploading photos/faces onto animated cartoon characters, but for the last year it has not been operating atall. It seems to me that, just as there is clearly a market for photo and video editing software, there is a massive marketing potential for software that allows users to load photos of faces onto animated characters, but the software seems confined to on-line sites like JibJab (which is very good but has limited material that is not updated very often) and the likes of mushygushy.com which has proven to be prone to being taken off line. Why can't the software be sold/bought as a standalone product without having to rely on an on-line service? Is anyone out there planning to market this type of software?
