what is the difference between online business and MLM business?

i see MLM or multi-level marketing business as being almost like internet or online business. are they different?

1. mlm online business is a scam... they don't make money by actually providing a service or product, they make money by other people signing up for the business, like a pyramid... and also require you to pay something in order to join, and that is a big-no-no... where as an online business is an actual business that is based online and provides a service... such as a company that may sell coats online, or does resumes online, or background checks online... if it is a mlm business i would almost certainly suggest to stay away, were as online business can be profitable if done properly. but you can't just join an online business unless you are working for them
2. MLM for years was done mostly buy selling a product or service to warm markets (People you know) the concept would be to continue selling to those peoples warm market and so on. Since the internet has come along, mlm can know compete on a larger scale. You can know use marketing techniques to reach millions of people that may want your product or service. The biggest benefit of a MLM business is you do not have to have your own product, your own marketing material, your own training and tools. Most MLM companies have all this in place for you. All you have to do is expose and sell their product and service. You act as your business for a fraction of the start up cost of a traditional business. MLM's want you to succeed and share their brand with the masses. You can make good money if your willing to work it. 3. Which ever way you look at it, one has to go out and work it. With MLM there is a product or service provided. 4. You didn't give enough information in your question. Just saying "online business" doesn't tell anyone what type of business it is. It's just like saying "brick and mortar business" or "flea market business". You have to mention what kind of product or service you will be selling to classify your business.
