how do I make money with affiliated marketing?

I am new tto affiliated marketing I signed up with a company called typistjobs.net and with clickbank but I have no idea where to start. The free websites that typistjobs.net gives me I never heard of and there are so many of them. I want to make money with affiliated markketing but have no idea where the best place is to post? what to post? how to make the ad interesting? how many places to post and where? Can someone with experience give a beginner so tips? and is there really money in affiliated marketing? Please no scams! and if there is another business I could start online that makes good money please give me ideas Again NO SCAMS! Thanks
