A company wants to use my design...?
A company contact me via my website that features art work I've done. In the email she asked if she could use my invitation and envelope design for marketing materials for her company. In the email the only thing she offered was full attribution for it on their website with a link to the Flickr URL. What should I do about this? This is the first time I've had anyone contact me in this way. Below is the email that I received. "Company" is a consultancy company back in UK. We were looking for some images to use in our marketing materials and we love your envelope image called 'Invite with Envelope'. It has the professional touch that we want our company to be associated with. We'd like to ask for your persimion to use this image in one of our campaign and you will be given full attribution for it on our website, with a link to the Flickr URL. Looking forward to hearing from you.

- You may want to ask her for compensation for using this, but if you do its like selling her the design. On the other hand since she will attribute it to you it could bring you some good pr and clients if you are trying to sell your designs.
- Hello Brat, You must be very good in your work to get an offer like this. Negotiate for more back links with the consultancy as they would be selling to many companies. You should ask for a fee for using the design.Get a copy right for the design also. I suggest that you create blog and invite more offers by submitting articles, and posting them in social book marking sites for more mileage . To help on the way just have a look at :http://bit.ly/blogging-to-the-bnk. Cheers Deban
- Congrats :-) Its time to think both Long & Short term.. Questions that you should answer yourself! 1. If I give away my design for free to the UK company, how does that help me? Is that company so big that my design will get super famous and I'll start getting calls for more? If yes, then why not allow them.. If not, then lets talk money..(I cant say how much, since I'm not American) 2. Do I design for money or just recognition? Is that design so good that it should not only get recognition but also money? 3. Should I give away the design for free since it doesn't matter much and designing is just a hobby!? Finally, personal opinion is not to let go opportunities even if you dont get paid.. They are going to link it to you anyway, which means you are still the owner.. Think & work hard :-)
