Is it legal to save webpages for personal use/reading later?

I go to a online school and once the classes are over, i can't view anything in it anymore. I took a marketing class and i wantto go ahead and save all the reading from the web pages to Word Docs for my personal use/ reference for me to look back at in my business. Would this be legal or illegal?

  1. Yes.
  2. Totally legal. You could also print them out and put them in a binder if you felt so inclined.
  3. Probably illegal. There's a general exception to copyright called "fair use", but while it's a very important exception, it's really pretty narrow. (I'm speaking from a U.S. perspective, this will be different in other countries; Canada, for instance, generally allows unlimited private copying for personal use.) You probably had to agree to the terms of a license before you were allowed to access the reading material. Most likely, that agreement is very restrictive. It may or may not be enforceable as to restricting your fair use rights, but to copy other than isolated portions of these readings would not be likely to come within the fair use exception anyway.
