are programmers still in demand?
i am planning to go to school this September to study computer programming, i love being a round computers but so far don't know a lot about the programming industry, i would like to become a software engineer in the end, maybe games developing or much more than that i don't want to limit my self, what i am afraid of is whether or not i will be able to find a job in this day and age, or should i go with electronics or mechanical engineering. i don't want to mess this up, i just want a education that i can move around with, something that i can free lance if i chose. and what about the job market in Canada and the USA, r programming jobs good to go there. one more thing, if i want to be somewhat of an hacker do i really need to know and computer languages. by hacker i mean ethical.

- i believe you currently dont know much about computers and by that i mean in programming or design because you have said so much what you want to do and this is not gonna be a year or 5 years thing that all from gaming to web designing is different and takes time to learn and skilll in it...................................people say there are so many computer programmers here but so many without jobs and suggest to not go into computers.......i say not go only if you not confident about it because no computer guys have a lot of jobs and its scope is not over........they are still in demand but the problem with it is that only the BEST are in demand.......and if you have Experience with a company then thats a bonus on your resume. try it only if you like it and believe you could do great with it otherwise i guess no. i am a software analyst at Goldman sachs Currently and i love it every moment there :D
- Random thoughts: 1. It's nearly impossible to predict 5 years from now. 2. However, if I was going to, I'd say the computer science field is still a strong one to go into. I'm in Canada, near Toronto and it's still hard to get good developers. We spent a few months trying to find a good junior developer ... 3. If you are good at what you do, there will always be a market. That, more than anything, dictates who easily you will get a job. 4. Yes - if you want to get into computer security - you will need to know computer languages. More and more, computer security deals with web applications.
