affiliate online program?

I've been looking through a few affiliate programs as I'm currently interested in going into this field of work and I stumbled upon a few sites notably: http://www.iubrothers.com ...and I noticed that most of the affiliate programs and products were American. I would like to know whether it's possible for me to join these problems despite living in the UK & also whether there's any real money in affiliate marketing?
