Do I have to worry about liability for my informational site?

I'm considering doing an informational type site so I can then do affiliate marketing or adsense or something similar. I'm not going to try to educate people, but mearly sharing my ideas on healthy living, nutrition, diet, cooking, exercise and perhaps a few other topics like cleaning tips etc...

  1. Maybe. Put a big disclaimer on it. Browse through some similar sites and you will see examples of good disclaimer language.
  2. Put a disclaimer clause on there for sure, on the bottom of each page, and you will be OK.
  3. Simple answer is talk to a qualified attorney. But, I can tell you that if you list information on a site, and it is deemed as a libelous statement, or outright slander, you're definitely liable for damages, if the company comes after you. There is a right of free speech, but that does not apply when you are giving information that is of a detrimental impact to a company or a service... Best thing to do would be to clearly state first that you are expressing your own opinions, and that they are not an endorsement of any particular product. Second thing I would suggest would be looking into incorporating yourself to protect the assets against any lawsuits, and get good insurance coverage against any claims. That way, at least YOU are not on the hook - it's the company, and ITS assets. Good luck, J
  4. Check with a commercial insurance agent.
  5. See the simple disclaimer I use on my site. (Link below). This is enough for what you are doing. You don't need to waste money on an attorney (I am one so I know).
  6. just put disclaimer like other are saying. search for disclaimer template and then modifies it to suit your info site.
